I researched for best overear headphone as i’ve been trying to find something comfortable for long listening sessions and better sound quality for music and calls. i have been experiencing discomfort with on-ear models, poor noise isolation, and battery issues with my current headphones. i went through reviews from trusted sources like reddit, wirecutter, and rtings and after comparing many options these two kept coming up as the top choices:

**Raycon The Everyday Wireless Bluetooth Over Ear Headphones**

[https://www.amazon.com/Raycon-Bluetooth-Headphones-Cancelling-Microphone/dp/B08TMTFR6B/](https://infomest.com/raycon-the-everyday-wireless-bluetooth-over-ear-headphones/)

**Bmani Hybrid Bluetooth Over Ear Headphones**

however, i am having trouble deciding which one would be better for me and i would love to get your expert advice and hoping maybe some audio enthusiasts or people with experience using over-ear headphones on this forum can also share their advice. i usually use headphones for gaming, music, calls, and sometimes travel and need something comfortable, long-lasting, and with strong noise cancellation. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

I can’t keep ear buds in my ears, and find them uncomfortable, as well.

I use JVC “nearphones”.

These are the model I have that are a bit more affordable ($50): [Amazon.com: JVC Nearphones Open Ear True Wireless Headphones with 16mm Large Drivers for Powerful Sound, Single Ear use, and Long Battery Life (up to 17 Hours) - HANP35TW (White) : Electronics](https://a.co/d/02KfojMq)

These are the next model up with better battery life and higher volume ($99): [Amazon.com: JVC New Nearphones Open Ear True Wireless Headphones with 16mm Large Drivers for Powerful Sound, Single Ear use, Compact Size, and Long Battery Life (up to 38 Hours) - HANP50TB (Black) : Electronics](https://a.co/d/07PDNIPP)

I have Bose Ultra Open ear buds. They are very good a don’t notice them on my ears. Sound quality is great. They sit on your ear lobe not in your ear canal. They have the benefits of in ear buds in that they are light and small, without sitting in your ear and when out and about you can still hear cars etc. Have used them for work calls too and have been very good.

Thanks everyone for the detailed suggestions, really appreciate it.

The JVC Nearphones and Bose Ultra Open Earbuds both sound interesting, especially the comfort factor you mentioned. I hadn’t really considered open-ear styles before, but it’s helpful to hear real user experience with them. That said, my main priority is still reliability for long-term daily use. I don’t want something that just sounds good at first but ends up having battery issues or wearing out quickly after a few months. Comfort for long sessions (music, gaming, calls, and travel) is also really important for me.

I’m still comparing a few options, but your input definitely gives me a better direction on what actually holds up in real use rather than just looking good on paper. If anyone has more experience with long-term durability on over-ear models, I’d love to hear it.

If you’re looking at open ear ones, look at Shokz. The OpenRun ones are really good.

I’ve been using my JVC headphones for over a year and a half. Still the same sound quality as they’ve always been.

I did not mention the Shokz Open Run before since you wanted “over the ear” headphones, but I am very pleased with mine. I also find them useful for riding outside because I can get directions from my phone or Garmin, and I can still hear the other sounds that I need to hear.

Appreciate all the input, this has been really helpful.

The Shokz keep coming up, and I can see why now, especially the safety aspect for outdoor use and still being able to hear everything around you. That’s actually something I hadn’t thought about much before.

I’m still leaning more toward over-ear for comfort during longer sessions, but I’m starting to understand why open-ear has such a strong fan base too. The JVC and Bose Ultra Open also sound like solid options depending on how much I want isolation vs awareness.

At this point I’m basically trying to balance comfort, long-session wear, and something that won’t feel “worn out” after a year or so. If anyone has used any of these long term (like 1–2 years+), I’d still love to hear how they’ve held up.

The old Shokz, like the Bluez ones I had like 8 years ago would pinch your head and really were uncomfortable for long sessions. The older headphones had to contact your skin really hard or they wouldn’t conduct the sound properly, the new ones work much better.

For the last 3 or so generations (since the “band” part now looks like a wire instead of a strap) they really don’t pinch your head. I literally wear my OpenRun headphones all day without issues.

Similar to what Sir @richie_engineer said, open style earphones are efficient in most every respect. The [Suunto Sonic headphones](https://us.suunto.com/products/suunto-sonic-coral-red) are a more cost-effective strategy than are OpenRun, which are my choice for the trainer, AppleTV, etc. I’ve also been using Suunto’s [Spark](https://us.suunto.com/products/suunto-spark-coral-orange) when out & about. The Spark have a better sound quality yet are not true open-ear and have the 2-piece setup.
