Interested in recommended books on cycling. Historical, biographical, training or any other genre. I’m a fairly recent convert to cycling, but enjoyed watching the coverage of the Tour de France and La Vuelta. Also enjoyed the documentaries on Movistar and Pantanti. Based in the US so cycling coverage is more limited than Europe. Magazine recommendations would also be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi @dmgadry61 and welcome some of the magazines you could have a look at are Cyclist/Procycling/BikePacking Journal/Bikevibe/Farride/Peloton/Rouleur and Soigneur. As for books there are 2 good ones out about the Wolfpack or Deceunik Quick Step, Three Weeks, 8 Seconds by Nige Tassell all about the 1989 Tour De France with Greg LeMond and Laurent Fignon battling for the Yellow Jersey with no more than 50 seconds separating them the entire race. Also if you are that interested in cycling have a look at the GCN App you might find you can watch more races live or as live than what you get on American Digital channels and at £38 for the year you might find it’s a steal depending on how many races you get but I’d say quite a lot, check it out anyway 👍👍👍👍

Faster: The Obsession, Science and Luck Behind the World’s Fastest Cyclists by Michael Hutchinson is a good read.

I also really enjoyed The Tour According to G by Geraint Thomas.

Following! I just got into cycling a couple months ago. I’ve been watching each stage of the ‘21 Tour de France (full replays on Peacock, which comes with my Xfinity internet plan). I don’t watch the whole thing of course… just the recap at the beginning, the start after the neutral zone, then I’ll skip to the end and try to time the final with my last minute of my 45 minute spin. I’ll also watch extended highlights on YouTube.

Anyways, I’m excited to learn more about the history and perspectives on the sport.

Plus one for The Rider–I just found a copy in a used book store, but you can find it digitally. Great read that puts you into the mind of a road racer in the late 1970s as he competes in a race. Amazing book!

Great reads:

Dividing the Great John Metcalfe on riding GDMBR and the Tour Divide

The Midlife Cyclist Phil Cavell training and cycling after 40

Sprinting Through No Man’s Land Adin Dobkin the 1919 Tour de France

Bobke II Bob Roll

There are many others I could recommend but love these.
