Elemnt - How to handle the Cafe Stop

Newbee to the Elemnt, I have an Ace & generally love it but I’m confused about how to deal with it during a ride at a cafe stop. My old Garmin was easy - simply pause the ride & press the power button briefly, display went off, removed computer, get coffee.
With the Ace, unless I’m missing something the procedure is more complicated. I can’t see how to turn off the display without powering it down. This risks loosing the route & possibly my ride thus far. What I have been doing is:
Once the ride is auto-paused, going to the settings page, disabling the touch screen so my removing the computer from the bars doesn’t mean I accidentally get to some strange settings page when brushing the screen and then leaving the device on whilst having a coffee. I know the Ace has an enormous battery life, even so it seems very odd that the screen can’t be turned off whilst stopped for 20 mins or so.
Am I missing a trick?

I use auto pause setting. Remove Roam 3 from bike along with expensive radar camera and phone. Place all these items in my helmet, go in to cafe and order.

Occasionally, Roam will let out a sqeak and announce turn right / left or other instruction.

I alway tell curious bystanders i’ve got a trained mouse in my helmet :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Seriously though , a ‘sleep’ mode would be useful!

So battery life while paused / not recording is actually pretty good and a much lower drain per hour then during the activity.

Just let the screen stay on.

That said, the ELEMNT has a ride resume feature. If the ride is paused and you long press the power button, it will save the ride and turn off. When you turn it back on, the ELEMNT will resume the ride.

Some notes:

  1. If the ELEMNT is off more than 6 hours it will end the first workout and start a new one when you turn it on.
  2. The sensors all have to reconnect again. This generally works great.
  3. If you have a TRACKR Radar, the auto on feature when you start a ride doesn’t work when you’re resuming a ride, you have to manually turn the radar back on.

I use ride resume for my commute, works great. I turn the ELEMNT on and off at lunch to get around the stupid 6 hour limit.

Interesting. I guess the issue bugs me coming from a Garmin where it’s so much simpler. I’m hoping the Wahoo take notice and improve this aspect. Cheers.

6 hours is more “pub stop” than “café stop”. :joy:

Hi Richie,

As I recall, power on after power off mid ride triggers ‘recovering ride’ (or similar text) and can take a while?

I think I also lost gear shift record when I last did this. Maybe latest software recovers better?

Not tried this recently.

It takes a little bit, and the resuming ride length is proportional to how long you’ve been riding. My commute is about 19 miles each way, it resumes in under a min.

I haven’t noticed anything with gear data or anything not recording.

So honestly, if I’m going to be stopped less than an hour, I’ll just keep the ELEMNT on.

I use ride resume for commuting so that I only get one Strava activity per day. I know other people who would use it for rannondeuring or ultra rides.

I wish the 6 hour limit was raised to 12 or so, honestly.
