I bought a Wahoo Roam 4 years ago and it just died. I use it on every outdoor ride and crashed 3 times, but I haven’t crashed in 6 months. Yesterday it worked fine, but I went to charge it and when I pulled it from the charger a few hours later it wouldn’t start. It is completely dead. I realize that electronics have limited lifespans , but I’m disappointed that it didn’t last longer.
Probably Lithiun Ion battery. For long term storage should be charged 29% to 80% otherwise battery may fail.
Not serviceable, contact Wahoo, they may offer discount on Roam 3?
Thanks. Will do. In the meantime I tried every combination of charger and wire and I got it to respond so we will see if it charges and if it works.
Yeah the cable might actually matter. But if it still persists, contact Wahoo customer service, I’ve also heard about discounts on replacement units for ones out of warranty.
Thanks. I charged it up and will test it out tomorrow. In the past, Wahoo customer service told me not to charge it with an Apple charger so I have been using another charger. Hopefully, I’ve found a combination of charger and cable that works.
Just as follow up, it worked this morning so I think it was just the charger/cable combination.
Why would Apple chargers not be recommended? Anybody know?
Charge cables are just weird and not as universal as people think.
I’ve got a bunch of USB-C cables I use to charge all my bike stuff. There’s one which will charge my Wahoo but not my GoPro. I’ve got another one that won’t charge either but works with my phone.
Yeah, I have similar issues. My thicker cables charge just about anything, but some are thinner and definitely move less power and either charge slower or only charge lower powered devices.
One of this year’s winter projects: watching TV while testing and marking piles of cables and chargers collected over the decades for power and data capability, and device incompatibility. Because, yes, I also have decades of devices that use a variety of plugs and wattage requirements, and certain cable-device pairings just don’t play nicely with each other. Believe it or not, I recently bought a couple of the same brand rechargeable handwarmers and one came with a cable that would transmit data and the other not, and that non-data cable got mixed in with the others (because who really keeps a device with its original cable?). I love this little gadget. I finally found out why I kept having to swap around cables with no understanding as to the reason.
And engineers say that biology is weird
. One of my sons is an engineer and I’m in life science and when he was in college he told me that I took “physics for poets”. Then he got a “B” in biology
. He is now older and respects what I do (and is off my tab).
I still remember my A Level Chemistry teacher telling my class:
Biology answers to Chemistry,
Chemistry answers to Physics,
Physics answers to Mathematics,
Mathematics answers to God.
I’m a non-religious Maths teacher. ![]()
