Where do they go when they go down? Seems an efficient way to break both knees.
@AkaPete The bells go between the legs and knees stay out of the way.
@SirAlexanderLee Super impressive! I wish I had your high ceilings in my pain cave.
I was rotating my hands at the bottom to bring them in. So:

At the top.
Tried to load a short video, but it was too big.
Had to have my legs a little further apart than the single handed swing and had to kick the hip thrust even harder than with a single because it just required a completely different type of kick compared to a 2 hand or even single hand. Felt this in my lats and shoulders more too.
It brings to light discrepancies between the sides really quickly. I was surprised how much. Level of concentration is 11.
Gets super tight when lifting the log. Have to put it up in between the rafters
The video makes it look easy.
Awesome stuff!!!
I’ve been getting back to back illnesses so cut out literally evwrything for a month to try settle the immune system a bit. Back into it this week with the Tour then kettlebells again from next week. I did take my 10kg camping last month and everyone used it, was great!
I’m at 10 TGUs at 16kg now as of this morning. Super proud of myself. My 1 handed swing is currently 20 x 12 and 80 x 16kg so will get that there next week also. Then I will finally be an average man. Been at this 3 months now. I bought a 20kg bell last week as a birthday present and also just to stare at it. I tried it out one of the days and was able to get it up on both sides but didn’t try to go any further. That’s given me a load of confidence though. Am finding the 1 hand swings tough but they are coming along nicely. Currently just doing 2 x 1H days and then a day off followed by the same again. Everyone had covid in the house in Feb except me. Somehow missed it or at least had no symptoms and just kept going with my routine. Gotta be happy with that. Stay solid everyone.
So what has changed since November? I haven’t really been out on the bike so I don’t know how all this translates yet. My pants still fits although. I’ve noticed my arms are meatier than before, shoulders are more pronounced. I found my lats. I can do pushups with my kids sitting on top (important dad skill?).
Awesome! I’m good with the 16kg one handed swings, but haven’t been consistent enough to nail the TGUs at that weight. Still mostly doing 12kg there.
I mentioned S&S to my son a bit ago. He told me today that he’s achieved average man. A funny goal. I’ll get there when I get focused on it again.
These things should come with a warning.
Obviously, they breed like rabbits!
Newest addition is another 24kg for more 2 handed stuff.
2 handed swings just entered monster territory at 106lbs/48kg!
Stay STRONG my friends!
lol… That’s hilarious and I was thinking the same thing as I have 4 of them now (not quite as many as you). I’m fully average now at this point as I’ve the full S&S going on 16kgs now. The 20kg is staring at me but I’m not quite ready yet. The 16kg 1H swings in particular are still hard. Still struggling with technique on those also. I find that my shoulder becomes unpacked somewhere during the retreat phase such that when I launch it again I have to repack and if I concentrate on that, I lose my glutes. Videos always make the 1H swing look super easy but I find it highly complex as its ballistic. It is much easier to correct things when you are going slow.
In case anyone is interested, StrongFirst and Pavel has a video here on BJJ which I just bought on the St Patricks day sale. I watched 1 of 3 videos so far. Just started the 2nd. The details on the Turkish Get Up are pretty good. Bit disappointed with the details on the swing. Seems to be lots of other instruction on there too. I’ve put a list below to save you the bother of clicking the link. You can find it if you look for “Pavel Tsatsouline” in the search bar on top. If you end up buying it, via that link, it says it gives you $20 off. Not sure if that is on top of the sale price or not. Anyway, figured it was worth posting although not exactly excited to hear about Russian soldiers doing x, y and z at the moment.

Well I had to go back to absolute basics with my KB work due to an absolute lack of anything structured over December/January.
Swings with the 10kg are once again sweet and will upgrade to the 12 shortly.
The biggest (scariest) thing tho, was I opted to do my TGU with my 10kg. Before I’d only ever done them with a shoe. Or a 2kg dumbell. I thought I was going to die. Actually getting up with that weight dangling over my head was terrifying. Only managed one each side. But it is a start that I intend to build on. Technique was a mix of revolting and terrified desperation but I’ll do my extra ones with my measly 500g shoe to keep the technique solid.
It’s hard to start again. Just make sure you have someplace to drop them if the need arises.
Yep, have rubber backed felt carpeting but debating getting a couple of thick rubber gym mats as well.
Well, being an average man is still just a dream for me. Was recovering from the shoulder surgery and then my right knee blew (old ACL recon) - coming right. Slowly. Working on Built from Broken and feeling positive about that. Use some KBs in that. Shoulder feels good. Looking forward to becoming an average man in the not too distant future!
Good luck in your journey up to average!
Congrats on getting 1 each side. Nice going. Concentrate hard on keeping it supported straight up and it really helps. You’ll get there!
You guys are an inspiration! Thanks for your posts, photos and sharing. I’ve been delaying adding consistent KB training as I haven’t been sure on the training program. Today, the answer popped up in a recent cycling specific post by StrongFirst.
The baseline testing and assessment metrics, as well as the training structure and progression are the straightforward plan that I’ve been looking for to improve my foundational strength using KB and BW exercises. It reminds me of the no-nonsense, science based, long on experience approach used by the team here at SUF.
Welcome. And with that article you’ve really reminded me to train daily.
And I’m fascinated by the loaded hurdle step. I’ll be looking to add that in!
