Mont Ventoux on RGT - duration?

After doing the Mt Ventoux Dénivelé Challenge 1 on SYSTM last week, I think I’d like to try the Mont Ventoux ride on RGT.

I’m trying to estimate the duration of the session, but I’m having a hard time finding relevant sessions on Strava to help me with this.

If I ride at about 2.5w/kg, can anyone give me an idea of how long my session would be for the full RGT ride? I’m guessing something around 2h20-2h30?

Thanks!

Hi @RServranckx

I rode the full course (up and down) for the first time today.

Time from start line to the top was around 1hr 36

For the main climb itself (Strava segment starting in Malaucene) 1:28:43

For the climb I averaged 2.8w/kg

Total time from start to end and back to the start (including down and back up the wee decent on the other side) was around 2hr 15

If it’s anything like Zwift, if you can maintain 2.5 W/kg you’ll be done in 2 hours or less (edit, under 2 hours) I was doing endurance pace and did it 6 times in a row between 2 hrs 15 min and 2 hrs 25 mins

I realized, after the fact, you got exactly what you were asking for from @Dafydd. I think my best time up virtual Ventoux was like 1:45. You’ll crush it at 2.5 W/kg

I’ll let you know! It may be later next week, as I’m currently trying to muster up the courage to do the one and only Sufferfest vid I’ve not yet done on Sunday - Kitchen Sink…

You do that on Sunday and I’ll do my first FF since April 2021. :handshake:

Coincidentally, I did Kitchen Sink today. Be sure to have snacks nearby.

Why don’t you kill two birds with one stone? Run Kitchen Sink on one device and RGT on another, with SYSTM controlling. That way, you can climb Mt. Ventoux and complete your All The Sufferfest badge.

Crush it!

Yeah, I’ll have some food handy, thanks for the advice,
As for riding Kitchen Sink in parallel, as I don’t ride RGT very often, I’ll want to ride Mt. Ventoux in a way to fully experience the ride, so I’ll just do that one on another day.

I always feel bad for the birds in this scenario.

2 weeks ago I did a virtual everest on Mont Ven2. I’ve been up to 7 times. on climbs I used between 2.54 - 2.91 w/kg. The time is 1h33’ - 1h44’. descents last 26-28’

Unless the birds are …

Magpies - peck your eyes out
Cockatoos - eat your house
Noisy miner - just randomly swoop and attack you
Kookaburra - steal your sausage sandwich with a stealth swoop

Perfect, thanks - so it looks like the ride up will likely be around 1h45ish if I can maintain 2.5w/kg, plus about 30 minutes for the descent.

Can I just ask whether you do this type of ride in erg mode or in level?

You could do either but imho, doing it in ERG defeats the purpose. Not saying there’s anything wrong with that necessarily, just that that wouldn’t be my thing.

Riding a sim of Ventoux, I want to experience what it’s like as much as that’s possible from the discomfort of my trainer, in my basement. So 100% difficulty level, in slope/level mode and changing gears as needed. It’s a grind when you don’t have a wide range of gearing but I imagine Ventoux is a grind no matter how you look at it.

Yes, it is a grind, in real life!

How do you get a read-out of 2.5w/kg? Do you use a head unit as well as what’s shown on the systm screen?
