See you on Wednesday!

this is obviously an advanced event on RGT – but are there ‘introductory’ opportunities to help newer users/races who want to try this sort of thing? what it’s about, how it works, how to prep? ways to get people interested/excited? Or is this just meant to be for people are who deep into racing already?

Hello and thank you for your interest !
This one, like almost all events/races is open to a wide range of levels (of course, the more people there will be, the better the experience gets, as you’re always close to a group/person).

For this event, feel free to join for 1, or 2, or all 3 events (each race has its own rules)

  • scratch is : “everybody starts at the same time, draft is activated, the race last 20-to-30’ depending on your abilities” (“classic race effort”)
  • iTT is : “everybody starts at the same time, draft is NOT activated, it’s way shorter, typically about 4-to-6’ effort, depending on your abilities” (MAP effort)
  • elimination : we neutralize lap 1 and nobody is eliminated at the end of lap 1. Then, every lap, the last person to cross the line gets eliminated. Lapped riders are eliminated too (“sprint efforts”)

Concerning other events in general :
I started “racing” almost 2 years ago, with the mindset of not minding finishing last or having to finish a race alone if dropped. The level of racers in RGT is quite strong, so this mindset helps  . Then I fought to stay above the last 10% of riders, and now try to stay within the top 60% (each person with his/her own battle / enjoyment  )
Well-crowded regular events are a good way to find groups, and you find yourself fighting to keep your group. To name a few :

  • <1h effort : West London VR : Wedesday, 7:30pm UTC (every 2 weeks)
  • 1h-or-so effort : La Classique du Jeudi, 5:45pm UTC (every Thursday)
  • if you don’t mind battling with bots and humans alike : the “T2 Area” races (slots at 9am UTC + 5pm UTC, every saturday and sunday). These are longer (1h30 to 2h30) events, some people take these rides as “endurance”
  • KnQ endurance ride are organized as “group rides” : 100km rides, but you’re allowed to teleport, if you fall back in a climb for example, but want to teleport back in a group on the flats.

Don’t hesitate if you have questions !

“OTR Flemish” is another good option, where the race is open only to people with an FTP of 3.2 W/kg or less.

A good source for future events : (on top right, you can search for “flemish” to see the next ones scheduled, for example)
https://rgtdb.com/Events

And last example (but I probably forgot many good organized events)

The “handicap race” is a special format where everybody tricks his/her weight, to even the field, and so that everybody races with a “3.2 W/kg ability” (just on that race  ). It’s another great way to fight for positioning / groups without taking one-self tooooo seriously

This is really helpful! Thanks for taking the time to explain it, and for the good approach to starting out. It’s definitely on my ‘to do’ list
