Hola, any recommendations for good headphones to use while running? I have Apple Airpods which are great in normal use, but always move while running so that I have to constantly adjust their position. So looking for something more stable with good sound quality and preferably wireless…

Thanks for any tips!

I’m not sure if they’re up a model now but I’m a big fan of the Jabra Elite 7 Active earbuds. They were a great price (I think I paid about $150 CAD) sound decent and most importantly stay put. I used to have AirPods Pro and no matter how I wore them or the size of the buds I chose, I’d never get a good seal and one or both would always fall out.

I find the Jabra’s very comfortable, to the point of forgetting I’m wearing them.

Thanks! There are now Elite 8 and Elite 10 available, the Elite 8’s offering improved noise cancelling over the 7s. Looks like a great contender.

I’ve been pretty happy with the noise cancelling in the 7s. For a pair of sub $200 earbuds, I’m giving them a 5 star rating. I can’t actually think of anything I don’t like about them. They came with a charging case and there’s loads of customization options if that’s your thing. The most important things for me are comfort, that they stay put, and that they sound pretty good. IMHO, they’re superior to the AirPod Pro’s which for whatever reason I just could never get a good fit. Ended up selling them.

I wouldn’t use noise canceling outside. I use a very old Apple device that my kids bought me maybe 15 years ago. I can still here what is around me and that is important when running outside.

Well that’s unfortunate, Jabra is killing off the consumer earbuds side. Sigh. Less competition is never good.

They are killing them off because there is too much competition unfortunately. Apple took the premium market, and the low end is identical Chinese models at a super cheap price.

If you can get some Jaybird Vista they are very good, the extra ‘wings’ on the earbuds make them stable enough for running or biking. I’ve found the Sennheiser True Sport Wireless just as stable, but a little quieter

The Jabra’s have a toggle (press the left bud) for hearthrough and noise cancelling. I often go between the two.

I’m a big fan of Sennheiser. I’ve had their wired buds as well as their “wireless” buds (just a wire between the two buds that you could put behind your head) and their fit was superb. They also had those little wing things.

It’s not what you asked for as the sound quality is _terrible_ but I was a huge convert to bone conduction headphones for running. It’s so nice to be able to hear your surroundings, and since they’re not in your ear you don’t have to worry about them moving or falling out.

I got the cheapest pair I could to try them out, so as I said the sound quality was poor for listening to music, they lack any sort of bass (think listening to music on an early 2010s candy bar phone speaker) but they’re more than ok for podcasts/audiobooks which I liked on my long slow runs. I believe if you pay more you can get better quality audio, but I think there’s a pretty fundamental limit to how good they can get.

My wife has a pair of “air conduction” headphones which have _way_ better sound quality, close to normal in ear headphones and still allow for hearing your surroundings. I’ve never run with them though so can’t give any idea about them for that

You didn’t mention if you were amenable to nine conducting headsets, but I’ve been using a set of OpenMove Shox headset. They make an OpenRun set with the ability to playback recorded music or podcasts. Yes, they are pricey, but the sound quality is above par.

Looking for conventional in-ear headphones, not bone conduction or other solutions. Noise cancelling is for my home/work use, not while running. Main criteria are good, snug, stable fit and good sound quality.

Despite the Jabra news, their headphones seem to get very good reviews. Might give them a go. Or Sennheiser.

When riding outside on a bicycle path, all too often I encounter a runner with headphones who cannot hear when I call out that I am passing them on their left.

Blitzwolf Bone Conducting headphones from Aliexpress are okay and often on sale. I had a pair of AfterShokz and killed the USB port with sweat. Avoid anything with a USB port. The Blitzwolf ones have a photo with a swimmer and 32Gb memory, so you only need to keep the 4 contacts free of corrosion, same as earbuds. I’d avoid anything too expensive as you don’t need high quality sound to run to and they’re easy to lose

I am the worst of the worst when it comes to headphones. I’ve tried sooo many headphones. None of them would I recommend. I gave up on bone conducting headphones because the sound quality was very poor. Very low on the bass or mid range. Too many headphones are either all treble or all bass. Very very few have good sound all the way through the spectrum. My favorite headphones aren’t made anymore. So I’ve been searching for 30 years and can’t recommend any. And I can’t use earbuds because they fall out of my ears. And too many sports headphones don’t sit properly or try to force you to stuff them inside your ears which I hate, and they only get good sound if they’re in one position - but sweat makes them slip out. But too many over ear headphones make your ears sweaty or give poor sound as well. Soooo…. Yeah. When I find something good I’ll be sure to let you all know. 😄
