I’m 56 and been back on the bike for 4.5 years. I had a peak.of 239 watts ftp three years ago. After long covid, an autumn break and 2 weeks weight training I did a primer session then the half monty. It had my ftp down to 150 and map at 182.
I’m three weeks now into base 1 and going to do the 4dp when rested and effects of the weights shouldn’t be a factor. I’m up to over 800 watts now for 5 seconds and can probably do 400 watts or so for the minute. My map hopefully 210-220 and anything over 168 in 20 mins I’ll take that as my time on the bike is limited as main aim up to Christmas is power up to 2 mins.
When I take my map its likely to identify me as a sprinter or an attacker. What I’m unclear on is whether there is scope to keep working on my strengths rather than weaknesses at this stage. My plan is to use my 12 week build phase and 3 weeks peak for v02 ans ftp type development but still to work on cadence and power and peddling style at this stage.
