Are there any mods / admins in the forums we can ping just to make sure, that they are aware of this problem?
Same here, using a Windows PC and the forum is not in dark mode anymore and there’s not dark mode toggle in preferences too… ![]()
you can use a browser extension to emulate dark mode, eg “dark reader” for Firefox
Thanks.
@Rupert : Are you aware that dark modes on the forums disappeared recently? Can we have it back please?
I tried enabling developer mode on Android and forcing dark mode, no luck.
Just to clarify - this thread is about suddenly disappeared user setting in User Preferences - Interface. We cannot set Theme option anymore.
@DameLisa I use Android phone (and tablet) in dark mode too. I use Chrome web browser to access forum. Do you use some application on your phone to access forum? Or any third party app which causes that you have dark mode shown? We lost the user setting for this option so it must be something else which causes your dark mode showing.
I just have a webpage shortcut icon. That’s it. You’re using the Discourse app?
I use Chrome browser without any functional nor visual theming extension (just pure browser - if it can be said about Chrome
). And it is why the missing user setting is important.
Edit: If you use desktop shortcut to forum, you probaly open it in your default preinstalled browser on your Android phone. And this default browser very probably ignores user setting for theme in forum and uses your system setting, which is dark. What is the default browser remains unclear - it can be e.g. “Samsung Internet Browser” which is default preinstalled for Samsung phones.
I can only get this to work on my phone (which is also on overall dark mode) when I
A) work with chrome for Android
2) set dark mode flag to enable on chrome://flags/#enable-force-dark
I stopped using Discourse for the time being.
For desktop, I switched to https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/dark-reader/eimadpbcbfnmbkopoojfekhnkhdbieeh
The dark theme setting is still nowhere to be found when using Microsoft Edge though…
