I’ve just bought a kickr v5 and it was great for 10k until I changed into first gear. The chain has come off and wedged in the gap on the trainer, I have the standard 11 speed cassette that came with it. Taking the cassette off looks easy enough but I’m unsure which tool I need, there are some cheap enough on Amazon, could some kind sole give me a link to the correct one on Amazon UK please?
You will need a couple of tools: a lock ring tool and a chain whip or pliers to hold the cassette. Since it is a one time purchase for the tools and they are inexpensive compared to the cassette and hub, I would suggest getting a quality set like Park Tool (and probably the chain pliars vs chain whip…easier to manage).
I am not a mechanic or even someone who does his own maintenance. One more thing to add. I would check the rear derailleur after I got the chain unstuck. There is usually a mechanical issue with the bike when these things happen.
I bought a cassette remover tool and chain whip and managed to hold the bike and remove the cassette releasing the chain
Agreeing with this…sometimes the cassette position relative to the derailleur is slightly different between the bike and trainer. You can adjust this by turning the cable adjuster on the der. Or using the adjust mode on di2.
You’ll also need to adjust you limits on your derailleur to stop this happening again. Adjusting the cable tension will sort alignment between chain an gears, but the upper and lower limit screws adjust the position of the stops which prevent the derailleur from moving beyond either end of the cassette and hence your chain coming off. It’s pretty simple to do, just need a Philips screw driver. and worth doing as it can prevent some serious damage to your bike.
