Did I really lose 80W of FTP in 10 months of riding?

FWIW, i’ve also had the the appearance of the same thing happen but in reality just was not on form for that test for whatever reason. the human body is complicated and it can be hard to control for all the variables, even if we try.

Lots of reasons for a drop in FTP, only one of which is a decline in fitness. My take on FF (and I’ve done it 15 times) is that it is only a snapshot of your ability on a single day. While it sets a baseline for training, it does not define you as a person, just your rider type.

FWIW, I’ve started as a Rouleur, then an Attacker, Pursuiter and back to an Attacker. That said, even your rider type is a bit malleable if you’re reasonably balanced, it could flip between types like mine does depending on whether I happen to nail one of the test segments a bit better on a given day.

All that to say, don’t worry about a drop in FTP, just focus on improving from where you are, not what could should or might have been. It is what it is.
