Half Monty Question?

Hi there

When doing the Half Monty and finishing the ramp then entering the HR zone im finding the power reduces and I am unable to reach my target HR…any known reason for this?

Are you turning off ERG mode and switching to Level mode after the ramp?

Do I need to select Level 0 - Grade: 0.5%

Yes level 0 should be fine unless your FTP is elite level, then use your gears to adjust to a speed/power that keeps your HR in the range. The on screen instructions will give you a target power but depending on your aerobic fitness you may be above or below this to stay in the HR range.

Gotcha, cheers.

I agree with @JGreengrass. Just want to add two things. First, you should change gears (while at a comfortable cadence) to get in the ballpark of the suggested power. Then you should make smaller adjustments to your cadence to manage your heart rate once it’s in range. A couple RPM points (eg 91 to 89) is often all it takes to get your heart rate away from the top of the range. Second, just remember that it takes a little while for your heart rate to respond to changes in power. So be patient. Don’t sprint to get your heart rate up and don’t stop spinning to get it down. Make gentle changes and be patient.

As another tip, make a note after on the workout of your level, cadence and power that you held for the 20 minutes section. It helps the next time you do the test to get in the same ballpark.
