In case you can’t make up your mind, Evan. Pretty sure you can do 20 and still call it a knight.
Double Knighthood! Fantastic idea!
I am absolutely intrigued by the idea of finally starting my attempt. Somehow I don’t seem to find the right time. There are other ambitions during my training and things in my life that somehow stop me from finding the right moment. But…
Something just opened up in my calendar. A few extra vacation days in november. And I see a chance to just do it and stop overthinking it. No big preparation week or prep plan.
What do you all think about this new plan?
I would need to hijack my ongoing All Purpose Road Plan during the last few weeks and it could possibly interfere with my Full Frontal Test in week 12 afterwards.
Moving my FF would mean delaying my next 12 week plan, which would interfere with the Tour of Sufferlandria (I’m guessing the date will be early february).
On the plus side: It sounds like so much fun!
Remember, remember, the 6th of november.
I’m not sure yet… Maybe I need to be more patient and enjoy my ongoing plan for what it is.
Do it! Sorry, haven’t looked at your plan or anything
My eyes glazed over at your plan image. I’m with @JamesT. Just do it!
I just did 100 miles using repeats of It Seemed Like Thin Air at 80% in 5 hours 43 minutes with no breaks except for the couple times I grabbed a new bottle and the one time I changed my socks. My current KOS plan means I would need to ride 3.5 hours more. I did HM yesterday and will be doing FF on Saturday. After a week of recovery I’m going to kick off the KOS training plan and then I’ll just do it. I don’t know if I’ll ever truly be ready. But, if not now, then when?
Do it @emacdoug! Personally I’d skip that KoS training plan bit and just do it, you’re ready, but each to their own. Enjoy the journey.
Yeah, I don’t know if I need or want to wait that long. Part of the wait is to give the family a break, too. lol. But I also kinda want to ride through some of the videos again, first. And I also need a little bit of recovery, first, too. I may move it up a week. We’ll see.
Evan, I think James is right. We should both just do it.
One more absolutely important question: Did anybody ever order and eat a whole pizza while on a bike? I know, I’m throwing all the “being reasonable” out of the window, right about now.
Sounds like you’re pretty close to ready. Doing the KoS Prep Plan worked well for me, and I’d encourage everyone to follow that. You already know what it’s like to be on the trainer for nearly six hours, which is one of the big steps towards a successful KoS attempt. Good luck with the preparations!
Challenges are there to be completed so go for it!!!
I had a quick look at your plan @Pierre and I hate to be the one to say this but it looks like you only allocated 1:44 to do your Knighthood- may be worth setting aside some more time
And @emacdoug, that is a nice line up but I don’t see Violator in there
See you at the castle gates,
IWBMATTKYT
PS: @Pierre I’ve not eaten a takeaway pizza while on a bike but I did have one during an ultra race a few years ago and it was fantastic!
@Rupert What’s Violator? Never heard of it…
@Rupert I have a question about the KOS Training Plan.
I’m starting the KOS plan on Sunday which puts the two hardest days on Friday and Saturday.
Unfortunately for me, I can’t do the training plan exactly as shown because I don’t have two days in a row where I can ride as long as the schedule dictates. Saturday is always my really long ride day and i can get up at 3:30 or 4am and just ride for as long as I need. However, I start work at 7:30am M-F; and Sunday I have church in the morning, plus it is usually my complete day off every week and a family day where I usually do nothing and only on rare occasions do I do short recovery rides. I can ride 2-3 hours on Fridays, but I can’t do 6 hours consecutively. I have two young kids who I put to bed at 8:30pm and then I try to be in bed by 10pm.
In the second and third weeks of the plan Friday would be a 6 hour day and Saturday would be a 3 hour day. It would be almost perfect for me if this was switched around to be 3 hours on Friday and 6 hours on Saturday, however, I don’t know it makes sense to do 6 hours on Saturday on tired legs after doing 3 on Friday. This would be my preference, but like I said, I don’t know if it even makes sense.
If that doesn’t work, would it still give me the same benefits to do 3 or 4 of the workouts on Friday and skip the final two, and then do the Saturday rides as scheduled? Or would it be better to do those final two Friday rides on Saturday morning before doing the scheduled Saturday rides?
Or would it make more sense to do 3 or 4 rides on Friday morning and then do the other 2 either during the day or at night (or one during the day and the other at night)?
I did my 100 mile ride two weeks ago, but this will be even more riding than that. I don’t want to burn myself out before my Knighthood attempt on Nov 14, but I also don’t want to come in undertrained. So, I’m wondering not just what’s possible, but also what actually makes sense and would be helpful so I don’t try to re-jigger the schedule and end up making it worse or even hurting myself.
Hey @emacdoug, this is super exciting you are getting close to your Knighthood!
I think I follow in regards to your availability. So basically during the 4 weeks of the plan you want to make sure you are doing those longer days (even if it means juggling a little)
IE:
W1 Fri and Sat looks like it will work.
W2 rest Fri then monster day sat and Sun Powerstation if that is possible?
W3: Local hero Fri and double up Sat.
W4: We will be patrolling the castle walls on the lookout for approaching Knights.
The biggest prep and not to be underestimated is mental toughness!
@Rupert Thank you! I think I was also reading the schedule wrong and thinking that both the 2nd and 3rd weeks were more similar than they are. This definitely helps. That one big day in Week 2 is easily the biggest hurdle. And then being able to switch around Fri and Sat in Week 3 helps, too.
My question about moving Power Station to Sunday in Week 2 is then doing The Chores at 100% the next day before the next rest day. I guess it likely depends on how i feel. But I suppose if I’m not doing the NoVid: Tempo: 4x8 on Sunday after Power Station, then I guess I should be able to do The Chores on Monday, right?
This is some excellent help and suggestions. Thank you! Now I just have to convince my wife I’m not crazy for doing this. I’m crazy for other reasons.
Mental toughness will definitely be a huge part. I have my training schedule up on my screen constantly so I can focus on it and know it backward and forward and be fully mentally prepared for what’s coming at me. And that’s one of the reasons I have The Bat as my first KOS workout. It’s also one of my favorite videos. Not a bad idea to go over the MTP videos over the next few weeks, too.
Great idea this, I need to announce my intention or I wont do it!
Ok time to post my colours to the mast.
I’ve been thinking about this for a while but never properly tried to approach the gates. Had this week booked off for annual leave and was planning some nice long easy autumn spins.
Then a lockdown was brought in here in Ireland so instead I’ll make a rash, ill conceived and downright stupid decision to attempt a Knighthood on Friday. My prep isn’t 100% but I’ve been doing regular riding this year so think my fitness is up to it and I’ll know how to manage myself on the day.
Here’s my proposed list (including 6 videos I bought way back when I first fell for the Sufferfest way back in 2013 for that bit of extra motivation)
|1|The Hunted|
|2|Hell Hath No Fury|
|3|There Is No Try|
|4|Nine Hammers|
|5|Do As You’re Told|
|6|The Best Thing in the World|
|7|Violator|
|8|GOAT|
|9|Power Station|
|10|Revolver|
Planning on doing the ones with longer FTP sets early in the session. Doing level mode and not ERG. Might swap in Attacker for one of the other FTP videos so I have something new to look forward to, maybe half way through the set. Any tips welcome.
You mean besides GSL Dungeon Master, Keeper of the PAIN (Patented Abacus of Incomprehensible Numbers), Speed Demon… wait there’s more…
Sir Killer Watt, Sir Masher of Disaster aka Creator of Do The Downward Spiralator…
So many accolades for Sir @JamesT…
Ha, not heard that one before!
p.s. it’s “Do The Downward Shovelator”. Just not the same without the shoveling…
Is that sung to the time warp …
Possibly. In another dimension. And when you get to the end it just keeps repeating until it drives you insane. hashtag off topic
You could also consider using ERG mode at a reduced intensity, assuming you have a smart trainer. A common target for the KoS is 70-75% of your 4DP numbers, adjusting up or down slightly based on how you feel and how accurate your 4DP numbers are.
BTW, it looks like a great list you’ve selected! Those short intervals in Violator at #7 and Revolver at #10 will give you some good suffering!
