Few days ago was new bike day. My MTB hard tail is ten years old and geometry is a bit dated (this is back when XC hardtail = 71.5 head angle). I wanted something capable enough to toe the start line but also affordable enough, so I picked up a 2023 specialized Chisel.
Gotta say, it is an excellent bike. The geometry is absolutely dialed abd I like the handling better than my full sus. Only a few of the components really give it away as a sub $1500 machine, and the lowest hanging fruit can be dealt with quickly: the SX rear derailleur is an easy upgrade to NX or GX, and online retailers often have year or two old Fox 32/34 or SID select on closeout that I coukd get to swap out the low spec Judy.
Once I put on the dropper post and mount up my carbon wheels I’ll post a pic. This thing is going to be a rocket

Stock wheels are $&@# (hubs mainly). But otherwise yeah. So. Very. Fast. And my other CX is a 2018 S-Works, which is no slouch.

Interesting, what hubs are they? Thought DT Swiss wheelsets were all pretty good?

Yeah the wheels are pretty nice. The Formula hubs (think they’re Cannondale in-house?) are just kind of chunky. Not the lightest wheelset in the world.
They’re still better than I am, though.

Other CX ride is a 2018 Specialized S-Works Crux. New ride is nearly 1kg lighter…was shocked. Hello free watts!
