@Sir_Brian_M Good thoughts that, because you are a Sufferlandrian, you will sail right through any needed procedures.
I’m good for another 6 months. Doc told me getting a prostate biopsy is like sticking your hand in a haystack 12 times looking for a needle. They didn’t find that the haystack was full of needles. He said, I could still have cancer that wasn’t detected. He told me to come back in 6 months for more blood tests.
Ok, thanks for the explanation. I had an elevated PSA, though nothing really out of the ordinary, but my GP thought I should have an MRI just to be sure - which showed something…which lead to a biopsy… which lead to a positive diagnosis. Low grade, no treatment, just ‘active surveillance’. I’m about 3 1/2 years on, and up until my last check, there was no change, other than my PSA slowing increasing - but again - well within the normal range. I am due for another check & probably a biopsy in a couple of months, and if there are any significant changes, I will probably have the prostate removed. I don’t really want to take any chances.
An elevated PSA can be caused by things such as cycling - which mine actually was - as I didn’t take 48 hours off the bike before my initial blood test; my subsequent blood test (after the diagnosis) was actually lower… so cycling - in effect - helped lead to the diagnosis - otherwise, I’d be sitting here none the wiser!
Fingers crossed for your next check - hope it all goes well.
And for all of you males out there - there’s nothing wrong with getting checked out. It might save your life.
Whether you should be checked out is a matter of current medical controversy depending on many factors. I would not be making blanket statements, and I speak from experience.
How are you doing now @Sir_Brian_M ?
My biopsy is scheduled for next week. Had the prep chat and checks at the clinic today and did a lovely 55km gravel ride home afterwards, was a wonderful way to clear the mind…
Well don’t plan on riding for a couple of weeks afterward. PM if you want more specifics
