I shouted “NOOOOOOO” when this came up (but I rode it all anyway
Which sets in The Model do you like better, the ascending intervals (first and last) or the two descending intervals in the middle? For me, the first and last sets are the worst, because it isn’t until the fifth interval or so that the recovery power is low enough to actually feel like a recovery, and by then the accumulated fatigue is enough that it’s tough to recover much anyway.
Was shattered all day and not looking forward to a never before touched fest vid. So tired considered bumping until tomorrow morning… but no. All done and feel better now than when i mounted. Im sure that’ll wear off very soon. Now, tea or Guinness…?
It helps that The Model is one of my favorite SUF videos of all time. But for me, the second and third sets (the descending intervals) of the The Model are the hardest for me.
Mentally the first set is great because my mind and legs are fresh. And I love the race footage. So, I blast away right to the end.
During the second set those 30 second MAP intervals really start to bite, and then the recovery gradually stops being recovery. Once I get to the 7th interval I know I can make it thru, but it’s painful and difficult mentally knowing the last 3 minutes is basically an under/over session which are my bane.
The third set is basically exactly the same as the second but with shorter intervals. Those shorter intervals feel good at first, but as it goes along and the recovery disappears it gets really hard, especially when my mind drifts to knowing there’s still one more set to go. The only thing going to for it - which I grab onto mentally - are that the intervals are shorter which means the whole set is shorter.
When the last set starts I’m pretty tired, but mentally I can push through because I know I can give it my all as it’s the last set. And then the recovery sections drop to being more and more recovery - tho not nearly as much as I would like them to be. And the final 2 sprints I just go all out because it’s almost done and the footage is awesome and I know that’s the end.
Done wretching on the 18th but persisted , it was horrible but not as horrible as the last time I did it : next time maybe I’ll be able to keep all the cadence targets and not wretch. I am fecked - beer and wine to recover
The Model is one of my favorites as well.
It’s one of my favorites too. I think I’ve said this before - an excellent workout, great music, fun theme, and amazing editing from the sadly missed Sir Francois Guguen.
It was tough to get started today, but my legs warmed up by the end of the first main set.
Was not excited for the Model after a miserable experience on Stage 4, but did the Focus Exercise beforehand and concentrated on breathing technique and form during the workout. I suffered, but it was good suffering.
Definitely liked the ascending intervals (first and last) better, even though by the last few intervals I couldn’t maintain the power targets for the duration.
Actually felt really energized and excited for Stage 6 by evening. Bring on the Downward Spiral!
LOL - that was my reaction too, though mine included profanity.
I was under time pressure Wednesday and Thursday and managed to finish the Model this morning, jumped into the shower and on my desk for the first video conference. Uff.
Having had two days of the bike made it easier. Even Garmin Connect is happy with me.
But I will now have a hard Sunday.
