What was your first concert? What's been your favourite?

And by the late 80’s, Ratt was playing my local roller rink. :joy:

First concert Monsters of Rock Castle Donington 1988, Iron Maiden headlined with Guns n Roses, Dave Lee Roth, Megadeath, Helloween, Kiss?

Best ever Prince 1988 Lovesexy, although Aha surprisingly rocked hard live (went with wife really enjoyed it and converted) in the noughties. Regretted not having seen Prince more, only seen twice.

Best small event Eivor in Karlsruhe

First was Michael Jackson in the old Comiskey Park Chicago 1984. Favorite was UB40 in college. Small venue and had great “seats.” Loved Springsteen show the best (1985) but had the best time at UB40!

My first concert was a festival with a formidable line up!

My first concert was a Verdi opera at the Metropolitan Opera House around 1966.

One of my favorite concerts was with the Boston Symphony Orchestra that was a Mozart/Beethoven concert that enabled me to better understand the tonal palettes of the two eras. That was probably in the early 2000s.

Wow, what a line-up!

Aaah fair call, I went to classical concerts long before I went to rock concerts. Mostly the Johannesburg Symphony orchestra in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Once the London philharmonic.
I have no memory of what they played, but knowing what I liked, most likely Beethoven & Mozart.

True. I did see the LA Philharmonic a few times when I was younger.

We attended many classical concerts of the Denver Symphony back in the 1970s starting when i was about 13, I think. I was a percussion student and my private teacher was a percussionist in the symphony.

Favorite may have been Victor Borge with the Denver Symphony at Red Rocks, probably 1975 or so. So funny!

Neat! My flute teacher at high school was lead flautist in the London Philharmonic. I got to hear her play before she taught me. She was an excellent teacher but SOOOO strict. It’s pretty cool to have a flute teacher take you outside to teach projection. She made me play on one side of the playing fields, and my classmates doing hockey miles away on the other side had to hear me while I played. It took 2 years before I could achieve that. She’d play pianissimo, and they’d hear her perfectly. She had a rich tone like a cello, too, absolutely phenomenal. Never heard anyone with tone as good as her. And I’ve watched James Galway and Henry Mancini play live too. Actually, THAT was probably the best concert I ever went to.

If I predate my concert experiences with musical theatre experiences then seeing Fidler on the Roof at an outdoor theatre at a local park and seeing Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris at a local cabaret with my parents are probably 2 of the most memorable experiences of my life. Those and seeing Jesus Christ Superstar (the movie) when it was released, then live in 1993 at a local concert hall with Ted Neeley and Carl Anderson (the original Jesus and Judas from the film).

@Heretic I recall in another thread that you listen to classical music during your workouts. Do you have any playlists that you can share? I have experimented with this recently and have enjoyed it especially when I export a workout to Zwift and am just riding around.

I have never been to a rock concert.

I really do not have a playlist. The only rule I have is I only exercise to music I have listened to before. As you do, I only listen with a non-Sufferfest workout.

So, I have worked my way through all the symphonies of Brahms, Mozart, and Beethoven. With the right workout, Palestrina’s Missa Papae Marcelli or Tchaikovsky’s Hymn of the Cherubim can be fun. For those with more modern tastes Arvo Pärt – Spiegel im Spiegel or his Diamond music. Tchaikovsky’s 4th Symphony can be fun, as can Mozart’s or Verdi’s Requiem.

If you have some specific interest, taste, or type of workout in mind, I could make some better suggestions.
