Battery management for dynamos

Just done my first few rides with the Wahoo Ace, and one feature id like to suggest, is some form of charging/battery management option that just allowed me to use my Ace continually connected to the dynamo/sinewave. A maximum SoC of 80% or whatever settings/strategy would be optimal for the Ace’s hardware.

I have plans for multi-day/week tours with the Ace, and if it could just take care of itself from the dynamo, that would be a great quality of life feature for me.

Have you tried it? I’ve charged various ELEMNTs using a USB battery pack during a ride, I don’t know why you couldn’t just plug in an Ace to a USB cable coming off a dynamo setup.

I’m coming from an Edge Explore 2, where for the last 3 years it’s been maintained at 100% because of the dynamo, and more recently it’s started rebooting constantly. So, I can well imagine that being permanently powered isn’t good for the battery, hence my suggestion.

I mean having it always plugged in wouldn’t be great for rain purposes, setting aside the battery.

But my suggestion would be that if your dynamo setup has a USB out, just plug it the Ace an hour a day or something while you ride.

My understanding of dynamo hubs is that they output 5V DC at a give amperage. The Ace onboard battery charger management will take care of the rest (cutting off or enabling charging depending on battery status or voltage availability). In other words it should be plug and play.
