I just bought a wahoo kickr core, it came with a 11 speed cassette. I have an 8 speed trek Domane. The chain slips constantly on the kickr. Do I need to buy a 8 speed kickr cassette?
Yes, I had an 8 speed Claris drivetrain on my trainer bike and put an 8 speed cassette on my trainer. It worked flawlessly. I never even tried the 11 speed that came with the trainer so I can’t vouch to how much it would have slipped, but the difference between 8 to 11 speed is big. I would be surprised if it did not have issues.
For clarity, you don’t need a super special cassette for a kickr, any shimano, sram, or sun race branded 8 speed cassette will work. Just look for an 8 speed cassette. You will need a proper lock ring tool and chain whip, or bring the trainer into your bike shop, they should be able to supply the cassette and will install it for you.

Yep. If you want to do it yourself, you could get a takeoff cassette on eBay. Really doesn’t have to be anything special.
