I also got mine replaced by wahoo, I received the replacement Saturday and took it to two rides (about 8 hours total) so far, no issues yet, fingers crossed.
Defective unit would fail about once every 10 rides, so it’s too early to tell.
Regarding extracting fit files, you can connect it to your computer and use some tool like openMTP.
Got the same problems. My new Roam V3 looses GPS at irregular intervals. This happens several times in an hour. I contacted Wahoo and have got their standard answer as following:
Hello,
This sounds like the GPS is struggling to calibrate, GPS requires line of sight to the sky to work properly. Can you try again outside and let me know?
Please ensure the ELEMNT has completed the GPS calibration process by completing the following steps (for each ride):
Turn the ELEMNT on while outdoors
After the warming up process is completed, using the page button, scroll to the map page of the ELEMNT
Initially, you will see “acquiring GPS” in the top corner of the maps screen
Once acquiring GPS is no longer visible, press start ride
These steps will ensure the GPS calibration for this ride has been completed.
Let me know how this goes. And please provide the dates of any workouts where you experienced these GPS drop outs.
If you could please provide the following information I can verify what options we have to get things working again:
A copy of your original purchase receipt, showing the date and purchase location (PDF or image file, no EML files)
Your current shipping address (typed out)
Your phone number (typed out)
A photo of the back of the computer, showing the serial number
I followed these instructions, but this didn’t help.
I sent them all the information they asked for but after that the support no longer responds.
My next trip will be in two weeks. For this I need a working navigation.
However, I feel quite alone with Wahoo and will be taking the matter to my dealer tomorrow. If he doesn’t have any success within a week, I’ll probably go back to Garmin. It’s a shame, really… Fingers crossed there’s a solution!
FWIW, this sounds like a different issue than the one that led me to create this thread. My unit would loose GPS signal in 1 out of 10 rides approximately, after signal was lost it would not get signal again until unit was turned off and back on, no matter how long/far I’d ride after the issue (4+ hours sometimes).
Customer service interaction wasn’t exactly efficient, lots of back and forth, some frustrations replies and long silent intervals, but ultimately they got to the conclusion my unit should be replaced. Once replaced I had (almost) no issue with the new unit. (Sometimes it freezes during boot up, requiring holding the power button down to restart it)
