Elemnt Bolt 2 Calculating Elevation Gain During Indoor Sessions

Hi everyone,

I’m having an issue with my Wahoo Elemnt Bolt 2 when using it with my Elite Suito home trainer. Over the past few days, during my indoor training sessions, my Wahoo has been calculating an elevation gain, which it didn’t do a few weeks ago. When I check the activity history in the app, I can even see an activity map (static above my house).

Does anyone know how to prevent this from happening?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I’d say the computer didn’t go into indoor mode so it had some kind of GPS signal.

The computer displays the indoor/Kickr mode before I start the activity. Also, Strava correctly identifies the activity as indoor cycling.

I downloaded the file from my last session and opened it with FIT File Viewer.
It’s clearly marked as an indoor cycling session.

There’s an error when I try to add an image, so here’s a link: Imgur: The magic of the Internet

I don’t have Wahoo but at least with Garmin, I think you do have the option to set INDOOR Activity Type to turn off GPS. I would look for the same setting option in your INDOOR Ride type and even if that shows it as OFF already, I would toggle that ON, back out of the settings completely, and go back in and Reset it to OFF again to make sure the device is not using GPS. If it’s showing you located at your house, it seems to me it IS using GPS for that, as aerobrain suggested.

I agree with both of you. And that’s why I’m looking for an explanation and a solution.

The computer goes into “Kickr” mode as soon as it detects the signal from the home trainer and I can’t change modes once this one is activated.
I don’t understand why it changed (everything was working correctly before mid-June).

Might be time to reach out to support and verify nothing changed. It appears that the “kickr” setting has enabled GPS.

I followed your advice and contacted support.
I did a factory reset, but it didn’t change anything.

The mystery remains unsolved. :man_shrugging:

Anyway, thank you for your help.

Mine has also started doing the same, have it a year and never had the issue until recently.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a solution for you. I thought the issue was resolved for me briefly… but it’s still happening

@Ddiamondd Are you having this issue when running a workout on Bolt 2 or just free riding inside? Unfortunately I can’t test this to see if I get the same result as I have the Roam 1 but perhaps post the steps that lead to the error so that someone in the forum can see if it can be replicated.

Also before you do that be sure to verify that firmware for both the Kickr and the Bolt 2 is up to date and also try to alternatively run your workout from the Wahoo App which has a player for indoor cycling and see if you have the same issue.

Hi, i have the exact issue the same as you, and the speed of my rides varies a lot based on the whatever elevation it decide to produce that day.

i have been in touch with WAHOO support since early july around the same time as you, initially they suggested it was a buggy unit, and was offering to send a new unit to try (wahoo bolt 2) around mid/late august.

then as soon as they confirmed a manager stepped in a week later to say it was a know software issue and then Wahoo dropped off the cliff and stopped replying.

around the same time auto upload to training peak, work out update syncing with training peak require a manual disconnection (and it infact does not disconnect) and try multiple times before it would sync workout onto the bolt or upload.

these issues are yet to be resolved and its now 4.5 months since i first flagged it with wahoo.

any luck from your support?

@kirk_kwok Saw your other post. It is best to keep issues in the same thread so people can better locate the information.

Hello,
No change on my side.

Here’s what Wahoo support told me in July:

Thank you for letting us know about your experience. This is an issue we are aware of, and we have opened an internal ticket with our development team to investigate and resolve the problem.

Since we have an open ticket with our development team, I am going to convert our chat to an email, and your ticket will be marked as “On-Hold” and merged with the developer ticket to be monitored internally.

I haven’t heard anything since then.

I’m always running a planned workout.

I don’t have a Kickr, but an Elite Suito. The Bolt is up to date.

Thanks for your help.

no problem,
i have done that multiple times already, still has issues ever since support asked me to factory reset the unit

it just mean its all manual now and if i forget i dont communicate w TP that ride

I am going to give up, wahoo support is now completely ignoring my emails, nothing, not supporting the issue and its still on going…they only focus on making over size head units no one has asked for with features that doesnt work…instead of fixing existing issues…

Ah, I didn’t even know they released a new model. The reviews on the website aren’t very good… :zipper_mouth_face: I thought the motto at Wahoo was simplicity, efficiency, and avoiding unnecessary features.

I’m still having the same problem. I haven’t written to them since then; maybe I should.
It’s definitely disappointing.
