Fat Tires

OK, so I’ve never considered myself a traditionalist - I readily embrace tech - but a 40mm road tire breaks my brain. My SuperSix road bike has 28mm mounted and they still seem chonky to me when I look down. But 40?!? Pretty sure I couldn’t even get clearance for more than 35mm.

I race UCI legal/questionable 31-33mm tires in CX, so they’re kind of my benchmark, I guess. Just…man. 40mm. Am I just old? SMH.

I’ve got 35mm Panaracer slicks as my road tires on Bonty Aeolus Pro 37 TLR wheels. They measure at 37.5 mm when fitted and inflated.

Edit: fwiw, I don’t race anything but the town sprint and I’m pretty good at it.

Edit 2: I am assured that there are roads beneath the potholes we ride on up here in the Heck of the North.

Do you have disk brakes or rim brakes?

If youre asking me, I’ve had disc brakes since 2016. I was an early adopter of the spinning metal circles of death, before our local cycling association would even let me race with them (in an individual time trial, lol!!). Just as I was an early adopter of fatter road bike tires and road tubeless.

I clicked on the link and received this message: Thank you for reading 5 articles this month*. This was the first time I ever on their site. To be honest, I have to question the value of a site that can’t even get something as simple as this down. But then I am old and cranky!
