First Knighthood Attempt

Thanks for all those who have posted tips. Not sure if I have missed it, but one tip I was given for long outdoor rides was take some paracetamol to help relieve saddle ache!

I’m also now committing to my 1st (and hopefully only KoS attempt and success - I’m also nearly 59 and not a ‘hardened’ cyclist so consider that I have to make this attempt count!!). It’s some time off as my upcoming personal schedule interferes with doing it sooner and there is no way I’d try it undercooked. Mentally, it’s still good for me to publicly commit now. My aim is to take on 10 new workouts for ‘variety’ which in fairness would only leave me with a couple still to do in the future to complete the full set. In order -
The Hunted
Violator
The Trick
Thin Air
Angels
The Chores
GOAT
Fight Club
Revolver
Do As You’re Told

Any thoughts/comments would be appreciated.

I wouldn’t really take paracetamol as a precaution, only if you really need it during the ride. I’ve found it works better for headaches anyway, not sure if it would actually relieve butt pain.

What you should absolutely get instead is a good chamois creme. Apply it liberally between every video. I’ve used Assos creme for my attempt as it has a bit of menthol and it worked like a charm. I’m sure other reputable brands work just as well.

The Hunted is no longer available and GOAT is no longer on the eligibility list so…

I’ll come back later with other tips as I have some stooopid chores to do

Could swap out Power Station instead of G.O.A.T.
As to The Hunted there are options.

I recommend against using anything to dull the pain. You may suffer in a way that a Knighthood do is not intended to. Use a “liberal” amount of your favorite Chamois creame. Remember as well that it isn’t the intensity of the ride, it’s giving 100% perceived effort. Be it 80% of Intensity, or 50%. You should feel like:
I never want to do this again,
I couldn’t climb a flight of stairs of you paid me to do it

Before every KOS is the idea that you’ll do a recovery spin the next day to flush out your legs.

The reality afterward is the feeling that you never want to get back on your bike for a long time.

That’s how you know you did it right.

Fortunately that feeling passes along with the soreness and lactic acid. Usually…

I actually used both Sudocrem and a local snowflake cream whereby the former was applied directly onto the chamois and the latter was directly onto my skin.

You are so right about this Sir! I kept well away from the bike for a good 2 weeks questioning my sanity or lack thereof while preparing my little write up. :joy:

I’m getting the idea my Knighthood was too easy. Not only did i include GOAT, but I did the recovery spin the next day, and then took one day off before starting a threshold block with the Giro d’Italia 1 Pro Ride the day after that. Now I’m starting to consider a new quest this coming October or November. Just have to make it more difficult!

And I HIGHLY recommend the day after recovery ride. It does wonders.

Hey @Justin_Litun, FYI, and icymi, you’ll need to replace GOAT as it is no longer an eligible vid for Knighthood.

Big thanks for letting me know what’s not eligible - that would be a disaster to attempt it and find out a ride didn’t qualify. I’d picked my list pre this year’s ToS so either its been updated since or I found an old list on here. I’ll definitely be checking the list pre attempt now! As for the use of paracetemol - it’s to deal with the aching (not chafing). Something I use on occasional long rides in UK (60 miles plus) as the UK roads are so shocking. My 2018 Trek Domane has helped when I got it 2 years ago compared to my older Giant bike (now my Wahoo trainer bike). Now, since I’m going to be largely stationary, might be ok without the tablets. Good bib shorts do make a hell of a difference too and I’m sure that tip about practicing long standing efforts is very sound.

Provided you stay within the dosing limits, make sure you are adequately fuelled and hydrated, I doubt there is any medical contraindication to doing this. FWIW, while I don’t recall using it myself during Knighthood, I have taken acetaminophen (aka, tylenol…aka paracetamol), regularly dosed during some similar ultra endurance events as well and have also paired those with regularly dosed naproxen.

Edit: please don’t take this as medical advice, I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on television. If you have any medical concerns, you really ought to see a doc. It’s actually one of the rules

That makes sense since, yes, there was an update made to the available and eligible videos post TOS.

This is now the updated list of videos:

We are all looking for to you updated playlist and the ensuing enterpainment of your KOS!

I note your disclaimer re you being a doctor! Neither am I. I’ll be well prepared on the fuel and hydration and in truth would only be taking something like 3 - 4 paracetamol over the whole duration so I’d like to think I’ll be ok!!

Thanks for that and the link. I can now edit my spreadsheet (yes - I really did do one!) of eligible rides and map against which ones I’ve already done so I can stick to my plan of trying entirely new ones!!

Ah, I love a good spreadsheet. have a spreadsheet of every eligible ride with the type, length, and intensity. Then a second sheet I can use to create my KOS playlists that I can sort and re-sort to my heart’s content.

Thank you, sir! With a heavy heart I have bid farewell to G.O.A.T., and with a heavier heart I have added There Is No Try.

I’m not sure you’re really a cyclist if you don’t have spreadsheet
