Increased FTP, Sessions Too Hard

Hi I did a Full Frontal Test after the prep plan and had an FTP of 245w which jumped to 285w with the ramp test. With that increase in I found some of the tougher intervals too strenuous to complete. The last FFT gave me an FTP of 321w and again the sessions are too strenuous to complete in Erg mode. My HR is also showing higher than the recommended zone. I no longer race and have let my fitness slip dramaticall over the past 6 years, I’m 61 BTW. I would just like some feedback how I can challenge myself to get fitter, but not over exert myself. TIA

Impressive numbers! Half Monty can really overestimate your MAP and FTP. Especially in athletes with a sprinter or pursuiter profile as their anaerobic muscle capacity pushes the ramp effort. This is discussed in quite some forum topics on Half Monty. I would manually edit the MAP and FTP values to their previous values, maybe plus 1 -3% and start enjoying your training again.

As Jud wrote, manually adjust the baseline in your profile to your Full Frontal test. It that FTP and MAP is too easy (low end of HR zone/easy to complete all the intervals/cadence within your ‘normal’) you can adjust up by 1-2%.

Depending on the platform you are using, there are keyboard shortcuts to increase/decrease the % while riding. I use an iPad and the up/down arrows on my folio keyboard allow that. I’ll use it when my cadence drops and HR goes out of zone.

Thanks guys, I moved from a Time Trialist to a Pursuiter from the first the 2nd FFT which will be down to the intervals I was doing. I’ll have a look and see how to reduce the previous values and how to use the keyboard to reduce intensity. Thanks again
