Let’s see your pain cave

And here’s my setup…

The fan has a remote control which I find super useful. This room in my basement is kept cool (17C during the winter months), which is really great for the hard workout sessions.

Thanks a lot for this info. I wasn’t aware of Radon at all. In my case not only the pain cave but also our bed room is in the cellar. I rented equipment to check the Radon levels. They are low if we vent regularly. If we don’t levels creep up and (would) exceed WHO levels within a week.
Again, thanks you for bringing up this issue.

We have a house in a high Radon area. We installed a positive pressure ventilation system and it works incredibly well, from what was considered high values to virtually zero. If it’s something that is causing issues I would really recommend looking in to it they’re totally unobtrusive and extremely low (no?) maintenance.

Wow–glad you discovered this issue! Be well and keep Suffering!

Nothing fancy, only room for pain and suffering

Well it’s not much, but I finally moved out of the basement to work on a “proper” pain cave. Daughter went away to university and I took over her nook. Bonus for a window…never had that before either.

But now I’m thinking of that GEICO commercial where the guy somehow surges off his trainer and crashes through the patio door… hmmm, what floor are you on? It may be good you aren’t on rollers…

Fair point @Cheryl.Vasan! Was imagining slotting my rollers in there as an alternative, but thought better of it. They will go middle of the room, far from any impediments…or glass.

 :+1:

First test run today: The Shovel was delightfully awful as always. A bit sweatier than the basement, but less dust and wheezing. Plus got to watch a very confused vole come out of the barn during the big snowstorm and try to figure out what the @#$% was happening to the world.

good to know you aren’t in imminent danger!

I did Shovel too. First time. It wasn’t as bad as I expected, so maybe I need to sub in a Half Monty test next week…

I have the same fan, I think. But now it is just for yoga. I got a Headwind last year for Christmas. I have to say the Headwind is pretty much my favorite thing in my Pain Cave (second only to a crocheted and mittened Bernie riding a laser goat that sits on my TV). I can’t believe how much more effective it is than my monster fan.

Really? My fan is like a jet engine, so feel like it’s more than enough - for better or worse. I struggled to justify my Climb, so the Headwind is likely a bridge too far. Especially when I’m more in need of new wheels, new bibs, a new chain, a new mechanic stand, a CX bike…

Hey Bob, great set up, esp. with all the equipment you have. Can you tell me the dimensions of the room, I have my setup in a room which looks similar but don’t have that much equipment, but I have a larger room available (once (if) I get permission!)

cheers

Hey Bill, room is small at 13 x 13 so I chose equipment to suit. The incline bench easily collapses and can be stood up against the wall providing ample floor space for yoga, kettle bell, and resistance band workouts. It’s pretty maxed out and my only option - permission or not ;-). I have a heated garage but I use that to restore vintage motorcycles so that is not an option (LOL).

Thanks Bob, that’s great info. Yep, my room is still slightly smaller. But not by much, so I’ll make do. Similarly I have a yoga space, a trap bar and kettle bells (which I’d just take outside). I also have 55" TV for watching rides or other entertainment and that takes up some room. I might have to invest some voice controlled tech, though. Sounds like a lot of fun!

Sweet. Nice looking bike too. Is that your outdoor ride too?

I have one of those black, nobbly foam rollers too. Man, they hurt…
