Looks awesome. What ‘shoes’ are you looking at using? Make doubly sure they are compatible with those wheels.

Yeah, was aware of how careful I had to be with “shoe” choice. Conti GP 5000 S TR 700x28. These have replaced the previous GP 5000 TL that were not compatible.

Have ridden Pirellis (P Zero Race) for years now and really like them but they are unfortunately not compatible.

I’m on Vittoria Corsa N.EXT tires. Reynolds AR-29 wheels. Great combo. I had to pull off the rear tire due to a damaged stem and remounting them was not an issue. Next step is a full retape.

I always groan when I have to retape although it’s really quite quick.

The Pirellis were always super easy to put on/ take off. I hear the Contis are a little different - I think I’ll warm them in the sun first …

Retaping will be a first.
As to Contis, even their clinchers are a bear to mount. Good thing, they rarely blow off. I’m quite happy with them, but they are hard to find.

Something new always daunting - provided you have the correct size tape it’s really very easy though.

Just been informed the arrival of my frameset is “imminent”. So getting nervous about the things I haven’t done before:
Install BB (press fit)
Install fork/ headset bearings
Install Di2 e-cables
Rest I’ve done in some form or other so looking forward to adding to my skillset, albeit with a little trepidation.

Cables have me concerned. The rest you can watch YT videos and get a great deal of information from.

Apparently pretty easy (and should be a whole lot easier than hydraulic brake cables) - just need to await frameset before ordering the wires to get the lengths right. LBS has offered to help me out should I need it.

EDIT: “hoses” not cables

Cables are easier than hoses. Just stay away from cable actuated disc brakes.

Porquoi?

Ya know, i hear this a lot. But anecdotally(?) i had a really finicky rear hydro on my CX bike that my LBS swapped out w a Shimano cable setup, and its been bulletproof this entire fall season. Through four races now and nary an issue.

Interesting. It’s usually the other way round. Usually cables will foul or be hard to modulate. But if it works, don’t mess with it! The only cases where I witnessed issues with hydraulic disc brakes was where there was a series of bends on the hose that would kink or collapse. Then cable would work better as you can use protected cables and they would slide with little interference.

It’s quite fair bit faster than my older bike despite both having 11-speeds to play.
But I do think the laser goat at the head of the bike is doing wonders too by zapping those who are too comfortable in front of me. Hahaha

Actually I plan to build up a bike from scratch using Chinese parts like the ones Luke from TraceVelo does. Probably, the only thing which should be more of a known Chinese brand would be the frame.

In fact, those Elite wheels being pretty good and I am using their legacy branded wheels, Yuanan.

Good luck with your build. Look forward to seeing the finished product!

Not sure when this will actually take place though, but it’s likely when I have some extra funds which I don’t know when. Haha

I got the ok to get the new bike I’ve been coveting since Shimano released 105 Di2. While The Red Baron is barely 2 years old and he’s a GREAT bike, The Black Knight will be lodging with me for the foreseeable future and there’s only room for one.

Got a bit of a deal thanks to my LBS price matching the Black Friday price from another shop in another city.

Here’s a stock pic before he gets his new hoops.
