Is the RIVAL HR sensor working underwater? I want to use the watch to track my trainings while swimming, and I don’t want to rely on yet another heart rate sensor.
I couldn’t find any confirmation on the Internet.

The Rival is supposed to be waterproof - enough specifically for swimming, anyway. Can’t recall how many atmos it’s rated to, but it is supposed to be fine for surface swimming.
I did my first lap swimming training in a 50m pool, and the readings of both the HR and the distance/stroke rate/time seem consistent. The HR did get lost for a few minutes, so I have a flat chart.
Since HR was disabled by default in the training profile, I wonder if the optical sensor is reliable underwater.
Generally speaking, watches oHR underwater is a bit tricky. Not very consistent. A tight strap and wearing it quite high on the forearm (to minimize wrist interference) might be good.
Interestingly, Polar Verity works nicely despite being also oHR.
Was going to say the same. You can use a profile that enables OHR, and then just try it snug and high on your wrist to help w signal loss. Will never be perfect, but somewhat functional.
Thanks for the info. Indeed, I’m not looking for perfection, as long as I get a general idea of where I’m at. I don’t want to fall in the “too much equipment / metrics” pothole.
That’s actually why I like Wahoo, keep it simple and efficient.
But on the light of what you said, I’ll try to use my chest wrap as much as I can while running. It’s already my only HR device while cycling.
You can try to switch your chest strap with an optical band as thez Tickr Fit, POlar Verity. It gives great results for every soprts, and for swimming, you can put it on your forearm, close to the watch, so that the BT signal does not get cut and you’ll get good hr results for swims.
