You know that is the best approach to take and good advice. I’ve so not wanted to be the pushy dad that it almost comes across as ambivalence, but as you say, if they want it and do it themselves and they enjoy it and are motivated, they yes, why limit what they enjoy if they are not harming themselves.
Funnily enough on the games side, my daughter has really taken to playing tennis and doesn’t like the beginner games, its like, “daddy I don’t want to play silly games, I want to play tennis, why can’t I do more practice on my backhand!!”, so all kids are different, my son and daughter incredibly so, so it is good to realise that and treat them accordingly. It certainly is a great forum with lots of intelligent thoughtful feedback. Not sure which Suffefest session it comes from, but the Arthur Schopenhauer quote rings true: “Nature shows that with the growth of intelligence comes increased capacity for pain, and it is only with the highest degree of intelligence that suffering reaches is supreme point.”
