The 2025 wahooligan tour stage 7- official race thread

@gwydion Yep. The Alpe d’Huez workout is misleading. I have yet to be able to complete it at 100%. When I did it Friday, I ended up having to reduce the FTP to sweet spot/Tempo. Having done it once before, when it first came out, I knew what was coming and knew what I was most likely going to have to do, even though I told myself going in that I wasn’t going to reduce and that I was going to complete it at 100%. That saying “it’s not your mind that you have to convince. It’s your body” is bullshit :joy:

I once did the Alpe d’Huez on Rouvy. It took me about 2.5 hours, not including some pauses. Some people have done it in 45 minutes.

Yes! Go you indeed! Thank you so much for the adorable charts. Giggle.
That final face is both Cheshire cat and Doraemon grin. I totally relate.

I felt this so hard:

Note to self: do not ever try to ride up a mountain frequented by Mike Cotty IRL.

Did you notice how the error-riddled bot transcript managed to spell Elemnt correctly?

Overall assessment on the money though:

Why not?

cringe at the Wahoo product placement in the tech bit

It’s a Wahoo-produced video, being played in Wahoo’s training SYSTM, featuring Wahoo sponsored athletes. Sir Cotty has Wahoo-emblazoned kit.

Advertising, perhaps, but that is not what is commonly meant by “product placement”.

I don’t want him to bark “Allez, Allez!” at me when I get off to walk up the hill!

I kid; he seems like a good man and pleasant company, and a tour led by him would be quite the bucket-list experience. If I were in shape for it.

I think the idea of a ride with Sir Mike would be a wonderful experience. At least until the reality hit.

First time i have done this workout. It was a refreshing variation of the On Location format and one i hope will be repeated with other Pro riders

I always seem to get stronger through a Tour and finished with 110% for the last five minutes. I’ve scheduled in a HM/FF week from tomorrow.

This triggered my memories again of riding up Alpe d’Huez in 1992. Here’s a screenshot from the SYSTEM ride:

And here’s my similar shot as we approached the summit:

We did what Mike Cotty talks about and took the wrong turn, because the signs said to go right for Alpe d’Huez. Of course, in 1992 we didn’t have smart phones or Strava, so we really didn’t figure it out until we were in the ski village and having some difficulty finding our fellow riders and the hotel. There was no way I was going to ride back down and do the correct route. I was tired! We were about half way through a two week French Alps bike tour, and that day we rode up the Col de la Croix de Fer before climbing the Alpe.

I’m really lucky to have had that trip!
