Stage 5 of the Wahooligan Tour is Team Scream, where you’re thrown into a 48km Team Time Trial and the only way through is together. You’ll take your turn on the front, give everything you have, then tuck back in and trust the group to carry the speed — over and over again until the line. It’s a true team effort: shared pulls, shared pain, and a shared sense of accomplishment when everyone rolls through utterly spent. That spirit of unity is what the Tour is all about — riding as one community in support of the Davis Phinney Foundation and everyone living with Parkinson’s.
PRIZE POOL
The Wahooligan Tour prize pool is packed with incredible gear and exclusive swag — our way of celebrating riders who show up and rally their communities for a cause that matters. For every $10 you raise, you earn an additional entry into the prize pool, so every share and every donation boosts your chances to win while driving real impact in support of the Davis Phinney Foundation.
Got this one ticked off this morning, it’s a fantastic concept and one of my favourite workouts in the app, have not done the ToS since 2020, and enjoying is so far at full gas bias, though maybe “enjoying” is not the right word! Leaving Blender till the last day of Feb was not ideal and put a bit of extra fatigue in the legs ahead of the Tour but I’m hanging on better than expected…so far. Next up is Rates which I’ve not done before, and the double final stage of old familiars on Friday.. bring it on!
Team Scream is one of my top 5 favorites. I begged Citizen Blackwater (@Blackwater ) to include it in the Knight Ride season…so this is the second time in about two months of riding it. I’ve set some power records in the past on this ride. Today was get through it mode with a sore knee and sore hip but still enjoyable!
Anybody else stop at the end of the first lap at the bakery and get some doughnuts?
For the people who enjoyed this: do check out Hammer Chase 1 in the Pro Rides section, or if are looking for something longer (and when I first did it even tougher), Tour de Suisse 1.
Well I’m glad that one’s over! I love team scream when I’m rested, but even turned down quite a few notches One of my knees got very unhappy in a big pull.
I really enjoy team scream. I still remember the first time I did it: that sensation of immersion, leaning into the turns, grunting to get back on the wheel, and the Belgian sports director. Not to mention Sir Neal!
Stage 5 done and feeling strong this week. Hanging in there at 100%. Love team scream, really get immersed it. Love the bit where the radio station is changed and says, ‘it’s time to mash the place up,’ then the music drops and you just suffer.
This was awesome! I was a little worried about fatigue going in but crushed it. I’m starting to believe I can make it through this week without dialing down the intensity.
BTW, anybody else having issues syncing with Strava or is it just me? I did all the usual steps of manual sync, deauthorize and reauthorize and then manual sync again (more than once) without any luck.
Edit: My sync issue was somehow due to dual recording, when I deleted my watch recorded activity from Strava it allowed the SYSTM activity to upload. I’ve been dual recording for a few years now and have not had this issue, there must have been a change in Stravas dual recording filtering, kind of weird.
My fave SUF workout of all time. I can hardly believe it has been over a year since my last indulgence on Team Scream.
I love the immersion and I love the soundtrack, especially in the first half.
I find the whole thing inspires me to push harder. I know a lot of what stops me is in the mind rather than the legs.
I always feel stronger as the ToS goes on, helped by prioritising rest and recovery, so I turned up 5% for the last lap. Then with 5 mins to go turned up to 10%.
In the last pull to the line, my heart rate started to climb rapidly, my vision started to go to AVDP and the music started to fade as hearing faded, so I cracked with 7 seconds to go. This saw my highest indoor heart rate for over a year.
Great stuff!
I did this one on Sunday to get some of the longer ones out of the way (I’m still bike commuting every day this week), and that was the first time I did Team Scream.
Oh wow that might be the most fun and painful workout ever. So engaging. Also did it on a TT bike so I got down in the aero position every virtual pull.
Stage Six Completed! Team Scream is a Team Time Trial…and as you know, sustained threshold ain’t my strong point and the first time I did this workout it took me multiple tries before I made it all the way. This time, it was much less of an issue, partly because mental and I’ve done it before, and partly because my FTP was dropped by the Full Frontal on Saturday, which put my Zone 2 power disproportionately high in comparison.
I spent the majority of the time in the drops or on the aero bars.
Music was the usual Fantasy Melodic Metal blend, until I narrowed it down to Dragonly
I finally slept okay last night; Garmin TL from 1243 to 1462, and hours to recovery from 25 to 45. Still labled as being Productive. Still being told to rest.
Three Stages to Go. Why Suffer a Little, When You can Suffer A Lot?
Why (in the actual Hammer Chase) did I drop back in the second lap? Was it to let a teammate draft off me to get back to the paceline after he had a mechanical?
I think the DS is mostly understandable in this one–in a lot of the ProRides videos he has a full-on Sufferlandrian Vocal Fry.
I had to do double today, as I did on Tuesday. First stage 6, then 5. Today felt much better than Tuesday’s double. Still, it was painful. I love team scream, but it was a special level of suffering to do it after coll de rates. The darkness was closing in as I hit the finish line. However, running right around threshold for that long releases more of those lovely endorphins.
Having the more open window for completion was the only way I could do the tour this week. A good idea from the overlords.
