ToS 2022: Stage 3 - The Downward Spiral - is OPEN! Get down with it here

Is it Day 2 or 3 or is it just Stage 3? These Sufferlandrian Time Zones are confusing. Or maybe I am just getting confused?

When I saw the distant relative in the moat, I wondered out loud - Where is Fluffy?

Does mining for courage affect global warming?

Gategate - like Watergate, only different - a pass interference penalty? That should be assessed on the gate, not the riders. Now maybe the riders who rode through the gate should get an “illegal forward progress” penalty. What do the followers of football think? Which football? Maybe " un carton rouge " or “eine Rote Karte” would have been enough.

At this point a sense of humor helps me get through. Tomorrow is the real challenge - the Model at 100%, I just got through this one.

Stage 3 still lies ahead of me. It’s 11pm Monday here in the uk.
I’ve just checked and The Downward Spiral has a higher IF than Nine Hammers. That will be fun.

Stage 3 complete. Day 3 legs made this one harder than the previous times I’ve done it.

  • The warm-up seemed harsh, in your face from the get-go. (Day 3 legs)
  • 2 minutes “off” goes by much faster than 2 minutes “on”). (Day 3 legs)

Black Sabbath - “Heaven and Hell” came across the headphones during the second set, and it got me through it. Felt it an appropriate song. “Heaven” for the freedom to be able to choose to do this. “Hell” for how I was feeling, particularly in the second set.

I also had a pre-race fueling conundrum…I chose the one on the right, figuring if I didn’t burn it off today, I could finish the job tomorrow. Bring on Stage 4!

GRUNTER’S DRAG RACE! If the Tour of Sufferlandria fundraising reaches $200,000 by the time Dylan Robbins and I start Stage 4 - The Model - then we will ride the entire stage in drag – dresses, wigs, makeup, the lot. So if you want to see me in this fetching little number, then dig into those wallets, your friends wallets, any wallets and raise some money now! Then watch us live in 22.5 hours from now! It’s 187k now. We Can Do This! Current level: 2022 Tour of Sufferlandria - Davis Phinney Foundation

I swear I stopped for the train! Stage 3 done, no thanks to the gate crashers. The GMTI option helped with this one. A off day tomorrow to go visit Dad and then back at it for Stage 4, which I am really dreading.

I highly approve of your pre-ride fueling choice. Of course, I’m not terribly bright - but I highly approve!!

I love the storyline! That’s why I subscribe to SYSTM and Sufferfest.

I have zero interest in race footage and thank goodness there aren’t any perky over:enthusiastic people making it look effortless. Give me snark and dark humor any day!

And now I too hate trains…

Diving into this one in about 9 hours - hopefully I’ll get a good night’s sleep between now and then. Downward Spiral is a bit of a tricky one for me - I’m classified as an Attacker, so I generally do okay with repeated efforts. But my weakness is VO2 - which there’s a ton of in this workout (in this whole dang week as a matter of fact!!). So yeah, this one tends to hurt a bit and I’m sure it will tomorrow too. No worries, it’s less than an hour, right??!!

Wow finally got this done, 13 minutes in my kitten’s splint fell off. Paused and take him to the vet clinic. Leave poor little guy there😩then back to my workout, it just begins and, company shows up. At least, the get me through it option, is getting me through it. Surely, one of these stages is going to go smoothly. Just one.

Great video, great workout. Darn train.

The playlist for Stage 3 is absolute fire. I whipped out the noise cancelling headphones and they are soaked but man was it worth it.

Does anyone know if there is a stage-completion tracker in the new SYSTM world. In past years there were ways to track which stages were completed, and how many other people finished each stage.

It made it fun for me to see how many people were suffering along with me, and also a sense of comfort that my ride was being tracked.

Does this exist this year?

Thanks, Bob

In SYSTM app, click Progress (where all the badges are), click Tour if SUF. You’ll get the desired tracking comfort, but, alas, no counts of suffering.

I can always feel the Laser Goat breathing down my neck but it’ll never have a chance to really catch me.

Stage 3 was my bogey stage… always scares me this workout. I guess it’s from the 1st time I rode it and totally blew up halfway.

Done though, the last 2 penalty intervals were a fair old beating!

:face_vomiting:

Stage 3 done. Tough but happy with strong performance and garmin fitness age of 24  Maybe that 252mile warm up was a good idea

Downward spiral done. Not one that I have done often.
At each interval HR was peaking, so had to manage my efforts.
My own way is to lower cadence on recoveries and a bit on the efforts.
Managed ok, but fugue is surely building

Look forward to MODEL tomorrow, not looking forward to AVDP the next day and omg Saturday I don’t want to think about it

(Edit) think I want to thank GvA warm.y by the throat
