TSS query

Hi. I have been looking at TSS as up until now I knew what it stood for but didn’t really know how to apply it. This has raised a few questions that hopefully some here can answer. From what I can make out, to get fitter over time a gradual increase in TSS is needed up to a point as you just can’t keep increasing indefinitely. Also, a long slower ride gives you a higher TSS than a short interval session and this is where I am getting an issue. Long slower rides are good but short Interval/HiiT sessions are what increases fitness but with less TSS. So, why is a lot of emphasis given to increasing TSS to get fit when you can get fitter with shorter and harder rides with less TSS. One other point is, in the Systm library all the sessions state a TSS figure, surely that figure can’t be shown until after the ride when you have your other metrics from which it is calculated? thanks
