An hour of anaerobic surges up to around 140% of FTP. For me that meant around 350-375 watts.
Watched a podcast last week with Pogacar where he talked how much he LOVED Z2 work, and wished he could always do Z2, which for him meant 5-6 hours on the road at… 350-375 watts.
Five. To. Six. Hours.
[On a positive note, I WON MY FIRST KOM JERSEY IN ZWIFT!!!]
Pogacar isn’t just any pro, though, he’s a generational talent who is deservedly mentioned in the same breath as the likes of Merckx. I suspect most of the peloton has a similar thought to you when he decides to light the afterburners on La Redoute (or the Paterberg, or the Poggio, or the Galibier…), or decides that he fancies a pop at Paris-Roubaix and almost wins it first time out, or decides to float up the Mur de Huy like he basically doesn’t have to try.
I love watching him race, and he seems like a decent, classy guy with a sense of humour. The doubt is always there when you see things like this, sadly, but I really hope he is what he seems to be.
Yes. There was a recent interview with Geraint Thomas after Liege. He said early on in Liege when the fight for the break was still happening that he was working hard up an incline. Pogacar rode up from behind Thomas and started talking to him about some new watch he was thinking of looking at the next day - completely unrelated to the race - like it was just a casual chat. Thomas said he was focusing on his breathing and it was hard to respond, and looked down and saw they were doing 420w and was thinking, “Really? You want to have a conversation right now?”
