I was wondering if it is possible to choose cycling training work outs base on the zone intensity, like only zone 2?
If possible, how would I do that?
thanks very much

Anyone can train however they’d like. But do a test (Half M, or FF) to get a baseline read. Then pick rides that put you at 55-75 percent of your FTP estimate. Most of these will be in the “Inspiration” collection - maybe a few in “NoVids.” But personally, I think Z2 is an over-rated hoola-hoop that will pass one day.
Do you not think it’s just the modern rephrasing of long, slow, winter miles?
yes and no. endurance training is not going away, winter or otherwise. but recently it has been ascribed a unique magic that doesn’t really exist (its magic is how it balances fatigue and adaptation within a well balanced training plan, NOT it’s the only thing that trains mitochondria, etc etc)
so, is zone 2 just hoopla (or hoola hoop, i like that, i’m going to use it also
), of course not, but “Zone 2” probably is (if that makes sense)
Well, from what I’m reading (admittedly much from this site) is that for Z2 to be effective, you have to do a pretty substantial number of hours/miles. It works for pros because that’s what they do – LOTS of miles. But for those of us working out 1 or maybe 2 hours a day (and really, 2 hours once in a while) I’m thinking you’re really not getting as much back than for an interval type ride - and I think this is true for me personally, but YMMV as always.
