3 Part Breath

I’ve always wondered for 3 part breath if the breath should end (that is, we stop breathing in) once the belly is fully expanded, then when the ribs are fully expanded and finally when the upper chest is filled during each of the 3 distinct parts.

I’m not sure if I’m describing this properly but I find that I can get more breath in at each “part” going forward and wondered if that was the point of the exercise. TIA

That’s definitely how I’ve been taught, and my method of doing 3 part breath! I agree taking in each “section” (belly, ribs, upper chest) fully and separately achieves a fuller overall breath. I’m sticky in some of those sections, ribs especially. So breaking down into all 3 really helps me get the most out of deep breathing, rather than just gulping air and praying.
