I would like to ask for clarification on the map update policy. I own an ELEMNT Bolt v2 (purchased in 2022). While the system firmware receives semi-regular updates, the map data has not been updated in quite a while.
In my area (Central Poland), there have been significant infrastructure changes over the last 2-3 years, including new roads, cycleways, and surface updates. These changes have been live on OpenStreetMap for some time now. However, the maps on my Bolt are clearly out of date and seem stuck on a 2021-2022 dataset. Because it is missing new roads and has outdated surface information, the automatic re-routing function does not work reliably. Following routes planned on Komoot or Strava I often seem to be riding through open fields, because the road that has been constructed isn’t on the maps.
I’ve already tried deleting and re-downloading the local maps via the companion app to force an update, but it just reinstalls the exact same outdated dataset.
Could you clarify if Wahoo plans to continue providing map updates for the Bolt v2? If not, what is the recommended approach for existing users who need up-to-date routing?
I have spoken with the software dev team who have confirmed that a map update is coming, and would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused as a result.
Feedback from users is an important part of our development process, and we sincerely appreciate your cooperation in this.
I’ve created an internal feedback ticket with this information for our product managers so they can take your experience into consideration as they work to develop new features and updates.
So an update is likely coming, but it’s unclear whether it’s limited to just a single location (Poland?) or perhaps includes all of Europe.
In any case, I don’t feel like I received an actual response to my question on the updates policy. I’ll follow up wit support and will post a reply when I get one.
I have the same experience with the map for the Netherlands. In my region, several new bike paths have existed for almost 2 years, but they are still missing from the Wahoo map. This week I removed the Netherlands map and added it again, but it is still the same map without the new bike paths. Meanwhile, these new paths have already been known in Strava and Komoot for a long time. I previously created a post about this issue here:
Exactly. My follow-up support ticket got a bit of a vague reply indicating that a map update is coming, but with no clear ETA at this time, or whether it will be something they plan to do regularly. I’m not assuming any bad faith on their side, so I’m willing to go out on a limb and wait a bit to see if an update shows up. I’ve waited this long, so another month or two won’t make much difference. However, it surely makes me second-guess whether it’s reasonable to stay with Wahoo should my trusty Bolt v2 die at some point.
I have the impression that the maps on my Wahoo Elemnt Roam 3 are not updated very frequently. In my region in the Netherlands, several new roads and bike paths have existed for 2 to 3 years, but they are still missing on my Elemnt Roam.
This week I removed the Netherlands map from my Roam and downloaded it again to make sure I had the most recent version, but this made no difference. In platforms such as Strava, Komoot, and OpenStreetMap, these new roads have already been known for a long time.
My question is therefore: why are the Wahoo maps not updated regularly, and what is your update policy regarding maps?
I received the reply below. A bit vague, it basically comes down to the problem not being with Wahoo, but with OpenStreetMap. That sounds like nonsense to me. I think it may be time to start looking at a different navigation brand.
I have recieved word from our team regarding our maps and the frequency with which they are updated. All of our mapping is done via OpenStreetMaps. We recommend reaching out to OSM with any updates you are not seeing.
Since you mentioned that you are seeing a difference between OSM and the map on your ELEMNT ROAM 3, can you please send me some photos showing the discrepancy between OSM and the maps on your ROAM 3?
Thank you,
Patrick L.
