Yep, agree wholeheartedly. I am a pretty motivated person and really go for something if that’s what I want. Even so, seeing that many one here extol the worth of the mental training sessions I thought I would give them a shot. Downloaded all the stuff on the first session and filled in all the blurb to get started etc. Got to day two and there was a load more writing stuff down, who I am,my goals etc bla bla bla and I just switched off as it bored me to tears, I couldn’t be bothered with all this self examination stuff and I ended it there and then. I was the same when I worked and we had to fill in all this junk every month for performance reviews, what we had done, what we did well, what didn’t go well how we can improve, hoping that someone had gone on-line and giving me a good review etc, etc, etc… Basically doing the managers job for them. I am old school and didn’t see the need to justify my worth at my job. Maybe all this mental training malarkey is beneficial for those who feel that this is their weakness but not for me I am afraid.
I see all the replies regarding cycling not being weight bearing. I get the point, but are workouts like GOAT, Power Station, etc, good approximations?
I have asked this question of a few sports physiologists. They all told me no. And that weight bearing = the max weight you can handle in 5-12 reps in a set total. Something like GOAT…in a 5 minute set at 60rpm = 300 reps so is cardio, even tho it does train different muscle fibres to high cadence work.
@sandman Nope - as @DameLisa mentions those workouts will help with conditioning the muscles for squats but they are not weight bearing. Definitely add some strength to your plan - whether you use the SYSTM strength sessions (which are very good and have a great progression) or your own separate sessions.
Regular yoga and mobility is also very helpful.
@JSampson Thanks! I do the SYSTM strength training twice a week. Still in level 3, but making my way up. Sam as for mobility… I actually just earned the badge for doing them all.
Yoga… well… not so much… but do some stretches I picked up from a week with Bosswell.
