Improve Climbing and Long Sustained Power Output

I have been getting back into gravel cycling this year and have completed about 20 weeks of cycling over the past 6 months on a Wahoo Kickr Smart Bike. I have been using SYSTM’s event prep plans to get back into shape and prepare for some rides I wanted to do.

In the past month I’ve done 2 different organized rides, first 130 miles and a mix of road/gravel and second 100 miles almost all gravel. Both rides had 10K+ feet of climbing and while I finished both rides, I had a difficult time putting power out on the climbs later in the rides and my legs felt dead. Some of this could have been feeding but I think there was also a large fitness component.

I really want to improve my climbing and sustained power output efforts. From research I think the way to do this is through the threshold training plan. Is this accurate are there better plans to improve my climbing and long sustained outputs?
