Kickr Core w/ SRAM 1x12 Apex AXS

Hey folks,

I have a question where you hopefully can help me with. I own a Kickr Core and I‘ve recently switched to a new bike including a system change from Shimano 2x11 to SRAM 1x12 with the Apex AXS. Now I obviously would like to use the new bike on my Kickr Core as well, hence I made the according to my knowledge necessary adaptions:

  • change free hub to XDR/XD Freehub for SRAM systems
  • switch cassette to SRAM PG-1231 cassette - XPLR 11-44 | 1x12 (same as on bike)

The first part worked like a charm, switched to the new free hub, all good. But now when I try to mount the cassette, my problems appear.

For some reason it seems to be not possible to mount the cassette, there is way too much space and the lock ring is not really fitting / locking into any counterpart basically (see picture; w/o lockring to show the issue). According to the compatibility overview the AXS XPLR drivetrains with 11-12 cogs should work respectively with the XDR freehub. What am I missing here / doing wrong? Any help or hint would be highly appreciated  thanks in advance!

And you are sure that you should not use the hg body instead, that is what Google tells me.
And you usually don’t use a lockring for casettes to XDR.
Hope it helps

@Mandizo Sram XX1, XX1 Eagle, X01, X01 Eagle, X1, GX, GX Eagle all use the XD freehub body. The Sram NX 12 speed cassette uses the Shimano HG freehub body, so you need to watch out for this one. A good way to check compatibility is to see how many teeth your Sram cassette has. If the smallest cog is 10T, it should use an XD-style freehub, but if it’s 11T then it likely uses a Shimano HG freehub.

Thank you both for your responses. The cassette I‘m using is a SRAM PG-1231 XPLR with 11-44T, so the smallest cog has 11T. So following your rule of thumb @JSampson, I should try the shimano HG freehub.

And you are sure that you should not use the hg body instead

We’ll according to the wahoo overview it seems like that:

Anyways, I‘ll give it a try - thanks! :slightly_smiling_face:

It’s 2 rows above that you need to be looking at - SRAM (PG). Hence the PG at the start of your cassette’s part number. The XD(R) cassettes all start XG.

@Mandizo That might be incorrect. Let us know what you find and if it is wrong we should probably alert Wahoo support so they can change their website.

I am using the same cassette SRAM PG-1231 cassette - XPLR 11-44. This type is compatible with Shimano 11 HG freehub.

I did install the cassette on a KickR V5 without using the 1.8mm spacer and the stock original 11 HG freehub and no cassette lock.

I cannot tell yet how smooth it runs as i did not do any microadjustment yet. Mounting was okay and i can shift all 12 gears.
