All of the sudden my Kickr trainer has started to massively reduce the distance of my rides. For example, I did Igniter today and got 4.7 miles whereas every other time I’ve done it it’s workout out at 5.7 miles.
My FTP is the best it’s ever been. So it’s not like I’m riding a more leisurely pace!
Any ideas how you recalibrate or fix this? It’s a V5 and is supposed to auto update.
Aside from the “you’re riding inside so you’re not going anywhere” comments you’re sure to get…
when was the last time you did Igniter, Sir? I ask because at some point, I think the power targets were reduced so that may explain the decrease. Also, I’m assuming you haven’t changed the Virtual Speed settings? That is, you are using “virtual speed” in SYSTM?
Lastly, is it possible that the wheel circumference settings have reset themselves in the ELEMNT CA or WA?
I have noticed that under windows, Virtual Speed will occasionally turn off, and since the selector button is off-screen, it is hard to notice that has happened. Once it is off, it stays off for the next rides until I notice and turn it back on. The “distance” reported by my KICKR Bike and the “distance” from Virtual Speed can be quite different. I’m not blaming Wahoo, my clumsiness is probably responsible for somehow turning it off, but this is definitely an easy one to check if “distance” matters to you.
Could you have done it on a different gear (in ERG mode)?
To quote wahoo:
When riding in ERG mode you may notice that speed doesn’t seem to relate to your power output or gearing . This happens because ERG mode is designed to maintain the target power at any wheel speed or cadence. The speed recorded will fluctuate based on the gear and cadence you have selected, and may not be accurate.
Cheers for the suggestions guys. I’ll have a check of the settings.
Crazy thing is I do Igniter most weeks as an activator before CX races (like today). The mileage has dropped on all of my rides this week. It’s only started happening this week.
