Kitchen Sink - why?!

nothing must dull the suffering

It’s frankly bonkers, beautifully so, and was the first (and only) Sufferfest video i’d actually planned nutrition for - before and during.

I also seem to remember it being strangely satisfying afterwards.

Quite a while afterwards mind…

I think this is exactly right, it’s mental and physical fatigue resistance. Much like a training race or hard group ride

I’ve ridden it a few times. What I like about it is that it’s a great three hour training session. Not a lot of specificity, but it’s like an entire smorgasbord of suffering in a single sitting. You get to sample all the delicacies that Sufferlandria has to offer. It’s got everything including the…

Rode it yesterday and enjoyed it a lot more than I thought. Went through 2 bananas, a hot cross bun, a chocolate cookie, three gels and countless water bottles

Next time (yes there will be next times), I’ll ride the violator bit in level mode. 175% of MAP in such short successions wasn’t great.

Since I could not find new info on this amazing session, I’ll resuscitate this thread.

Did today the Kitchen Sink for the 1st time, and it was so much better than expected! Especially with all the not so good remasterings and the disappearing of SUF videos, it was perfect for remembering the good old stuff! Some of which apparently I didn’t do in a really long time.. Wahoo systm plans unfortunately skip a lot of great SUF videos in favour of their new plain and boring stuff

In my case the MAP was toned down just enough to allow me to finish relatively ok (151bmp average seems too low actually, but you do have enough rest between the suffering). The only really hard parts were the Violator - coming around 1:40 into the session, could barely finish the first big sprints, and the Downward Spiral - last of the 11 parts and some cramps wanted to creep in ).

I think good fueling is a must for this, both before and during (had 3 SIS energy bars, two hydro gels and 1 tablet, and 1 coke :face_with_hand_over_mouth:). And a lot of water..

Fully recommended!

Download this classic - it will shortly be remastered and won’t be the same.

What am I doing wrong?….or am I?

100% or better to do it reducing %… ?

3hours are scaring me, I am used to maximum 90 minutes efforts on the Kickr and my BPM starts to increase a lot at the end.

100%. The targets in the workout are adjusted from the targets in the source workouts, to account for it being 3 hours. It’s tough but if your numbers are set correctly you should be able to finish at 100%. Trust in SUF.

Definitely 100%, as I recall that last set just about killed me, but keep up the fluids and calories and you’ll do great!

Well thanks. It will heart a bit then. But it’s postponed for a while, next week there’s blood donation so I will take at least 10-5 days to fully recover. And then I will wait for a rainy Sunday. And then… ok then I will do!

Or you may keep it for the Sufferlandrian National day, highlight of the season :fireworks:

not a good idea. it’s always better to practice beforehand, always better to know what to expect (evil laugh included)

I did.

And it’s more suffering than hammering your *****.

I started at 100% but this worked only for first 80 minutes… than I had a little crisis and finished second hour at 95/90%. But guys, after the kilo I started not feeling where I was… and during 20 minutes of ISLAGIATT I died.

The dark side and the spiral brought me down down to 70%, suffering in Z2 has almost never in my life (only once when I throw up on a climb was worse than this).

I suffered, I enjoyed, I am sad the video will be remastered.. but give me my badge

Same here. But differently hard as you have to push through the higher power zones and cannot just shift and go a bit slower which is always possible on longer rides.

I did it at 100% and it really was no issue and fun for 95% of the time. Cannot say that about some of my longer rides.

My longer rides are usually fun because I want to do them. I am outdoors, or want to conquer a particular piece of geography, or the scenery is beautiful.

Some of my longer rides are so long that the fun wears off, a hard part starts and then the fun returns. Normally, I am completely exhausted at the end. “long” is of course extremely relative, just as “fast”.
