Knighthood Quest - January 31, 2025

And have a kit change too if I may add to your statement Sir Richard

And some say Defender and 9H too. Dame @Isa concluded hers with 9H and I am really in awe for her absolutely, ass-kicking, most glorious effort.

I’ll add in chamois cream, freshly applied between vids. Some might even suggest keeping it refrigerated.

Perhaps even an ice vest too to keep the body cool.

Highly recommend an ironing board next to your bike for snacks. Makes it super easy to have loads of options available along with extra water bottles, towels etc.

Changing kit takes longer when you’re 7 rides into your quest too

Oh, I think YOU could do 100%, MacMissile. Totally think you should give it a go.

Like, blindly? When do I activate this secret weapon?

I started my quest at 70% and ended up keeping it there for the duration. If I learned anything worth sharing, do rides that you love. I selected one ride based on the type of ride and duration even though it was not one of my favs. Easily the worst ride of the day.

As I was completing my last ISLAGIATT before the Quest, the list came to me.

  1. Do as You’re Told
  2. Angels
  3. The Wretched
  4. Butter
  5. Hell Hath No Fury
  6. The Rookie
  7. Nine Hammers
  8. The Best Thing in the World
  9. Rue the Day
  10. Violator

Now, I am happy to throw in ISLAGIATT (my absolute favourite SUFF workout) instead of Violator to conclude with a bang, if the minions agree to release the kits.

I wouldn’t bank on the kits any time soon. They said Monday but they never said which Monday so…

The Wretched at #9. That’ll be super fun for us. Especially after 9H and TBTITW :joy: :joy: :face_vomiting:

If you’re trying to scare me, it’s working

9H is my favourite of these 10. So it goes in 7 as recommended. What happens after doesn’t matter since I assume I’ll be in « autopilot » by then.

Honestly, I’m not trying to scare you at all. And, I realize that one’s quest is soooo personal so with 9H as your #1 favourite it 100% belongs where you put it. My caution (again, this is just imho) is that with a ride like The Wretched after 8+ hours of riding, it’s gonna be a grind. It’s relentless on its own and there’s not a lot of relief or recovery, even dialed down, because the efforts are all so long. All that said, by #9 sooooo much of a quest is mental so if you do decide to keep it there, just be prepared and no matter what Do.Not.Stop cuz once you’re on the other side of it, you’ll be so close to the castle we will smell you coming!

You’ve got this!!

It was between The Wretched and Revoler for #9. But I thought the redundancy of Revolver could be boring with 8h-9h in the legs, whereas The Wretched is a « race simulation », thus more engaging.

Hence, personal.

No matter what you do it’s gonna suck, so you might as well be engaged while you’re embracing it

The Wretched hurt my knee and it was only #6. I expected some relief when it was on reduced intensity, but instead could barely turn the pedals for the whole workout. Tho I think it was the combination of The Wretched, The Trick, and then Thin Air that did me in. So much time without recovery.

I always recommend doing the long endurance workouts early and then save the shorter interval workouts for the end.

But like Sir @Glen.Coutts said, it’s very personal. And depends on the rider type, too.

So, definitely do what you feel fits you best.

And Violator at the end always gets an extra slap on the back (and an extra bucket of pain suckers) from GvA.

This makes perfect sense, as the percentage dialed down for MAP-level efforts translates to a greater absolute dial down than FTP-level efforts at the same percentage. Useful, very useful as I am considering my own campaign….

Ok got it. My knees do scream at me from time to time. My rider type is Time Trialist. I’ll consider switching back to Revolver. Still 7 days to go.

you could also make a game day decision and see how you feel after #8. By then, you’ll know which one will work best for you.
