I have a Kickr V1 that I have been abusing and destroying for years. Honestly can’t believe this thing keeps powering up for more. Hats completely off to the craftsmen and designers!!! Amazing… Anyway, I’m looking to upgrade. I see the V2 and shift as the closest options. I’m a diehard Systm plans guy and love Zwift racing. I’m looking for some opinions from fellow abusers. Haha Thanks in advance.
Interesting question; upgrade why - is it broken?
The logical sucessor is the V2 (especially if you like the climb feature!), but I don’t think you’d really notice a difference in the features unless the wifi is a deal-breaker. The Shift is a downgrade from a v1 in build (although it might be a little quieter).
How about changing handle bars, saddle etc and pimping the bike rather than a change?
Great reply! Didn’t realize the Shift was a downgrade. Good to know. Never had any network issues with the V1. I have this bike in super humid acidic and salty environments that are extremely hard on electronics. I am also unaware of any special preventive maintenance or tune up practices for proper care. So I’ve been just cranking miles out super nervous it’s going to break. I’d love to get the confidence of a new bike back even if it’s another V1.
Ah ok; like you I love my Kickr so much I’d be gutted if it broke (wahoo managed a problem with my handlebars reassuringly well!).
I also have mine in the attic - gets pretty hot up there - so I bought a portable AC unit which makes training much more bearable!
Similarly I try to prevent spilling my caustic Holy Water everywhere by wearing a sweat band and using a “bike G string” to protect the top tube etc. Muc Off sell an indoor bike cleaner ideal for cleaning off sweat etc.
Here’s the maintainance guide:
Just for clarification: are you using a Kickr V1 or a Kickr Bike V1?
Kickr bike V1.
In that case I’d say: if you need (or just want) the climb functionality it needs to be the V2 of the bike. If you need something more quiet and don’t need to climb, it’s the Shift.
Perfect. Noise isn’t an issue. Love the climb feature, thanks for the input.
