Mac Mini performance

I was thinking about getting a cheap mac mini for the sufferfest and see that the min spec is late 2010 so if i was to get a mid 2011 Macmini5,1; Macmini5,2 running High Sierra 10.13.6.

What do i expect to see from it , will it run smoothy or will it struggle and with further updates coming I guess it may slow down even more?

Any thoughts or real life experience?

I think you’ll be OK. I’m running the app with no problems on a MacBook (Retina, 12-inch, Early 2016), which seems to have a slower CPU than the 2011 Mac Mini.

I just upgraded to Big Sur, and things are still working OK for me.

I use a 2010 Mac mini (the last one with the DVD drive). It doesn’t have BLE so I had to add an ANT+ dongle. Performance is ok playing videos but a bit sluggish generally. I get occasional dropouts from the ANT+ connection to the trainer, but it is momentary.

Just literally went in a 100% different direction 5min after I posted the question.

A buddy of mine in the Boston area surplused an older Mac Pro (the trash can) from a graphic design firm - fully kitted out w 256GB RAM, dual GPU’s and 2TB SSD HDD. Only issue (he said) was he didn’t have a monitor for it - which is no prob for me. Even gave me a wireless keyboard for it - all for cheaper than a Mac mini.

So going to give that a try as my dedicated pain cave power station.

SWEET!!

I imagine Zwift (and everything else) will look a fair bit better with that setup than with my AppleTV!

I’ve been running off my laptop for a long while, which can drive it at around 1080p. I see so many screen captures from people running at 4K and it looks sooooo much better. Thought I’d beef up on the cheap and see what I get. No lag and stutters would be awesome.
