We applied a similar sports-science philosophy behind your cycling performance to running. Now you can understand your athletic ability across both sports and track your fitness no matter what you’re training.
What’s new:
1. 3DP Running Athlete Profile: Understand your running abilities across three performance dimensions, just like your cycling profile.
2. Running Dimensional Training Load (DTL): After every run, see a precise breakdown of the training stimulus you generated.
3. Running DTL Breakdown: Separate your cycling and running loads to understand what you’ve actually been training.
4. Combined Training Trends: One unified view of your fitness trajectory across both cycling and running. Whether you’re doing intervals on the bike or the track, you’ll see how each session builds your overall capacity.
How to get started:
Tap your profile in the top-left corner of the app
Navigate to Running Athlete Profile and complete the setup quiz
Go for a run — your Running DTL will appear automatically after each workout
Use your DTL numbers to dial in Fitness, Training Capacity, and Training Trends across both sports
Are there any plans for new training programs that better integrate cycling and running? I know there are multisport programs, but I don’t do duathlons or triathlons, so I don’t run and cycle right after each other. That’s something that’s currently missing.
This is a really interesting addition. The move away from a single training-load number toward a multidimensional athlete profile makes a lot of sense, especially for runners who can have very different strengths despite similar race times.
What caught my attention is the breakdown between Threshold Pace, MAP, and Anaerobic Capacity. A lot of runners end up plateauing because they focus heavily on mileage and pace while overlooking which specific system is actually limiting performance. The idea of seeing how each workout contributes to those different dimensions could make training decisions much more targeted.
I’m curious to hear from people who have already tried it:
Did the profile match your perception of your strengths and weaknesses?
Have you changed your training based on the analytics yet?
How does it compare with metrics from Garmin, COROS, Strava, or other platforms you’re using?
Looking forward to seeing some real-world feedback after a few weeks of use.
This is exactly me. I’ve been using this and trying to do more AC/MAP work but it’s still early to see if it helps.
I am positive though because I was exactly the same way with cycling - tons of base, minimal intensity - and focusing on MAP over the last year has really made me faster on climbs, more than what shows in FTP gains.
Can it work from the details of a run captured using watchOS? or do you need to use the app directly to track the run? And… if the app directly - can I use this on an Apple Watch?
It’s not picking up any historical activities, nor walks or “other” since I’ve added the permissions this morning (unf after a run). It has permission to access health (which captures the apple watch activity) and strava ; it is picking up activities recorded directly in wahoo ecosystem. Any clue bats for what I need to check? Will it pick up historical run activity from health?
OK update - it did pick up the walk but I had to manually trigger a sync, and I uploaded a fit for the run. Let me know if there should be a historical back fill happening though and if so how to kick it off. No stress if not.
