Nine Hammers Shenanigans - 2026

I can vouch for the off bike playlist.

Day 7 and 8 sessions now complete. My legs are really beginning to feel all those hammer blows. This is the third day I’ve done multiple sessions, and it’s the most sluggish I’ve felt so far. Yesterday I played the original music. Today I listened to my alternate soundtrack both times. First time thru my legs were spinning along at a pretty good cadence with my music. But in the second go around my legs were tired. Even at 75% this workout is still a Sufferlandrian beast. Especially when you’re tired and fatigued.

I need to get some better sleep tonight. And maybe a quick nap during lunchtime.

This is a great distraction from the news. For the right kind of suffering, step this way!

I love that you’re only starting feel sluggish now. :joy: After a long hard day with zero exercise yesterday, I am feeling quite sluggish this morning.

You are setting an excellent example to keep going.

I’ve found most of the Nine Hammers songs from the standard SUF soundtrack with 5 exceptions.

Spotify:

Apple Music:

Missing are the first two songs:

  • Wall Street - The Dirty Clergy (Warm Up 1)
  • Summer - Metermaids (Warm Up 2)
  • Unnamed track (Second Recovery)
  • Monolithic (1962) - Chiwawa (Hammer 3)

I found This Peace - Den of Descent (Hammer 6) on SoundCloud:

It helps that I’ve had days off. I planned to ride all 4 days the first week, but ended up taking April 2 off. So I got a day off after just the first day, then I rode 2 sessions on both Friday and Saturday, but then has Sunday off. Monday (yesterday) I did 30 minutes of strength right before my 90% single session and I think that contributed a lot to my sluggish legs today.

But we’ll see. I’m sure not getting a lot of sleep this weekend contributed. Plus as I mentioned earlier this month is my company’s 28 day Fitness Challenge, so I’m doing some extra walking and yoga to get in the max points every day (yeah, I’m not competitive at all :joy:) and the. I also rode bikes for 20 minutes with my son yesterday afternoon.

I may start to crash if I don’t start getting better sleep this week. So that’s high on my priority list (as is a nap today!). This week is also planned as my highest volume week, so if I can stay on plan things could even out next week with less riding and more rest.

Rode my single 9 hammers this morning along with two yoga sessions (before and after) and some extra stretching.

I didn’t get the nap I needed yesterday and boy am I feeling it today. Rode at 70% and it was all I could do to get the ride completed.

Hoping I can get some rest and more sleep tonight since tomorrow is another double hammer day.

On the positive side, I now have less than 200 hammers remaining (not including bonus hammers) and am over the quarter completed mark.

On the negative side, I’ve only just now in 7 days completed as many hammers as I will need to complete in the first 9 hours of my final bonus unofficial 9H KOS quest. :scream:

:fearful::exploding_head::hot_face: That’s not encouraging… but, in your bonus level shenanigan, at least you won’t have time in between the hammers to feel the extra accumulation of fatigue? All in one day DOMS to come later instead of gradually piling on…

I was trying to be encouraging, but I’m not sure if it worked.

I’m thinking that, what’s gotta be even harder than the inane, I mean, insane :innocent: shenanigans Sir Sixpack has laid out for himself is coming in here everyday to give a wee debrief about it. I mean, GvA knows the boy can talk but all this writing has got to be a BIG time suck all on its own :man_shrugging:t3:

Fwiw, you are LEGEND, Sir Evan @emacdoug

Stay strong Sir @emacdoug! It is almost Saturday (and I forgot to post the ride  …. will do in a few hours….) and those hammers will go veeery fast. You’ll see!

Truer works were never spoken by GvA Blackwater. The anticipation of agony is almost as awesome as agony in progress (which is currently happening).

I hit myself with 18 more hammers this morning.

Apparently, even tho I could barely do nine hammers at 70% yesterday, that lower intensity along with plenty of yoga and some mild rest gave me enough energy for some harder work this morning.

I was barely awake, but I was able to complete the first session at 75% and dialed it up to complete the second at 80%. I was surprised and pleased at the improvement in the feelings in my legs.

I rode Nine Hammers this morning. At my rate, in three or four more years I’ll get to 270 Hammers!

Today was scheduled to be a single session of hammering along with some strength and yoga. However, because of a community garage sale this weekend, to balance out my schedule, and to not get up too early tomorrow - and be on my (relatively) best legs for our final final Knight Ride after-after party - I did a schedule modification for this weekend by moving The Tool Shed mash-up from Saturday to today.

I hadn’t put much thought into this workout, and was expecting a change of pace. but quickly realized what it was with 5 hammers and a shovel.

At first I planned to do The Tool Shed at 80% since I usually plan to do my double sessions at 75 or 80% so I can finish both workouts and not be completely destroyed for the next day while getting a good endurance workout. I thought about it while begging the warm-up, and after starting the warm up at 85%, I decided to go for broke and pretend I was only doing one workout and did The Tool Shed at 90% intensity and leave my subsequent session of Nine Hammers as a problem for future me. :face_with_peeking_eye::crossed_fingers:

Wowee!! The Shovel is one of my nemesis workouts, but the change of pace after so many 9H sessions felt surprisingly great.

It will be interesting to see next week when I get to do the full session of The Shovel just how much I enjoy that change of pace.

And I was tired after a hard workout, but I still had a full session of 9H to muddle thru whose intensity I now had to decide.

At first I began it at 70%, but once I got to the first hammer I turned it up to 75%. That ended up being my red line as I was able to push thru and finish, but it definitely felt more difficult than 75% intensity. If I had tried 80% I don’t think I would’ve made it thru.

Even tho there were 5 hammers involved in The Tool Shed, they are only counted along with the 23 shovel efforts as one of the 5 supplementary tool implements and not included in the overall hammer total.

Hammer Tracker:
:white_check_mark: 108 hammers done
:check_box_with_check: 171 hammers remaining

Once a month and that sounds about right! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Nope! I only need 90 more for 270 lifetime hammers, so two or three times a year! Still a lot more than if we were talking about ISLAGIATT, which I first rode in 2020 and not again until last week!

I was thinking 30 x 9 = 270. So only need 30 sessions of 9H to get 270 hammers. That means you would only need 10 more to your current 20 to get there. So 10 more months.

Today was another double hammer day. I had moved The Tool Shed to yesterday and I was glad I did. I helped my wife set up our stuff and signage for our community’s garage sale and managed to log in to the final final after party Knight Ride about 3 minutes before it began.

With The Tool Shed out of the way I had two sessions of 9H to hammer out.

With a rest day tomorrow I decided to push myself again and did the first session at 85% and felt great with my fellow riders pushing me along. I then kept the second session at 80%.

It’s amazing how much the company of riders helps ease the suffering. I was having a great time and the rides passed quickly.

That is until our 90 minute ride time ended… and I still had 4 hammers to go. The last 4 hammers were markedly more difficult when done alone.

That ends a full week of hammers. 9 sessions of 9H plus The Tool Shed. Tomorrow, thank goodness, is rest day, before I pick the hammers back up on Monday. Annnd I’m almost halfway thru!
