Request for Virtual Shifting Support on KICKR V5 (2020) with Zwift Cog + Click

Hi everyone and mostly the Wahoo Support Team,

I’m a long-time Wahoo user with a KICKR V5 (2020), and I recently upgraded my setup with the Zwift Cog and Zwift Click. While everything connects correctly and works in ERG mode, I’ve learned that virtual shifting is not currently supported on the KICKR V5.

I understand this feature is available on newer models like the KICKR CORE (2022+), KICKR MOVE, and Zwift Hub — and that hardware differences may be part of the reason it’s not yet enabled on the V5. However, given the capabilities of the KICKR V5 and its longevity, I’d love to see virtual shifting support added via a firmware update if technically feasible.

Many of us with the KICKR V5 are still loyal Wahoo users, and adding virtual shifting would go a long way in keeping our setups current and competitive with newer options. Even if it’s offered in beta or with limited support, I (and many others) would be grateful to have access to that feature.

Is there any chance this could be considered for a future update, or is there a technical limitation that makes it impossible?

Thanks for continuing to support your long-time customers.

Best regards,
Filipe

Unfortunately, this isn’t possible on the V5. There isn’t enough space to store the protocol required by Zwift’s virtual shifting on the V5.

Não só é possível nos modelos novos como também no Kickr Core de 2018, mas não no V5.

Amazing! Have you tried it? Is it worth it?

All I can say is, it’s worth a shot. The developer is very responsive.

Thanks. I’ve set this up and will give it a try tomorrow. Hopefully this works for me, however this really upsets me for how much I’ve spent on the wahoo product line. I’ll be looking to sell my V5 and leave the Wahoo ecosystem for better options.

Unfortunately, it is not possible. They are not avoiding updating the firmware to force people to upgrade. There is not enough space to store the required protocols on V5 and earlier.

Here’s the official word from Wahoo:

Will virtual shifting be available on other KICKR models?

We have reviewed the hardware and firmware capabilities of KICKR v5 (2020) and preceding KICKR versions. Unfortunately, these older models are unable to support the required protocols for Zwift Virtual Shifting and will not be receiving a future update for this functionality.
