Roam 3’s screen unreadable 50% of the ride- solutions supplied by Forum contributors. BIG THANKS

Updated from Roam 2 to the 3 and unless it’s direct sunlight beaming down everything is smokey grey.

I’ve been a Wahoo fan forever

Summary

After a lot of help from Forum members, my ride data was unacceptable on cloudy days a smokey mid grey screen with faded mirky darker grey metrics It isn’t good enough

MY REMEDY

So I bought a iSPORT BSC500 3.3 inch screen at 35% the cost of a Roam 3 and it’s fantastic!

It’s very clear and bright in all light conditions and the colours are vibrant.

if Wahoo are going to make inferior products, I will not buy.

Originally I had Roam 3 angled to be perpendicular to my eye. I found better sunlight readability with the screen level so averge viewing angle around 30 degree from perpendicular.

Backlight now set to Auto

Experiment with different viewing angle.

Thanks will try it. I’ve got backlight set to always on. I’ll set this to auto as well.

I’ll post an update soon. Thanks again

Auto also works pretty well for me on Roam 3, and yeah it’s rough with backlight off.

If you really want to boost it Auto Max will power through a lot of light problems but less battery life.

One other thing I was surprised with is that switching to dark mode this time of year actually improved readability at dawn/sunset. Not everyone agrees with me here, but it works for me better than I expected so it’s worth a try.

With backlight set to ON you probably lose contrast. Its a transflective display.

In dark ambient (night) needs light from behind LCD layer. In bright sunlight, light from front relects off the LCD layer.

Auto uses the light sensor (small circle top of screen), backlight turned off in bright sunlight.

Thank you - absolutely ! I did it

Yes ! 40% angle works. Big thanks.

Just rode on cloudy day, my data screen was a smoky grey and hard to read unfortunately
