I was just reminded in one of the emails that I get from Wahoo about the capability to do simulated rides using the SYSTM or Wahoo apps, i.e., using a phone or tablet to sync with a Kickr. However, it seems that this cannot be done from SYSTM for Windows. Although I can find all my outdoor rides under Progress/History Beta, when clicking on the three dots at the right of an activity there is no option to “Create a route” as there is if you view the activity in the Wahoo app on a mobile device.
Is this the current state of the technology?
I use my laptop and SYSTM for Windows for workouts, so if anyone knows how to do this, I’d love to hear about it.
Thanks for pointing these out. I have read them but was, perhaps naively, hoping that someone had figured at a way to make it work in SYSTM. Seems strange not to.
If I have an outdoor ride saved in SYSTM is there a way of bringing it up on the Wahoo App? I used my ROAM for the ride so I could also have it on the Elemt App.
I believe that you need something like RideWithGPS, Strava, or other apps that allow you to create routes. You can typically create a route from a real ride, and if your Wahoo account is linked to the 3rd party app, it’ll show up in the Wahoo ecosystem (ELEMNT app included). Check the Wahoo doc on this.
Is this new feature in the app any different to the indoor route simulation feature that’s been on the Bolt & Roam for years? (and as far as I know doesn’t require an active paid SYSTM subscription to work)
I’ve only been using a Roam for the last year and have been slow to pick up on all its capabilities. But I think that you are correct; the indoor route simulation has been on the Bolt and Roam cycle computers for a while and doesn’t require an active SYSTM subscription. Just find an outdoor activity in the History page of the Wahoo or Elemnt app, tap on an activity to open it and then tap on the three dots at the top right; there should be an option to create a route on the menu that appears.
To use a saved route on a Kickr, go the the Plan page of the Wahoo app. There should be an option at the top of the page for “My routes.” The Plan page also shows options for SYSTM workouts and some Wahoo simulations. Seems obvious that you would need a subscription to use the SYSTM workouts but I’m not sure about the simulations.
Yes, the support page says you need a “Wahoo X” subscription for route simulation to work on the Wahoo App, but I’m 99% sure you don’t need a subscription for the same thing to work on the Bolt and Roam - just get your route onto the device by whatever your usual method is (Komoot in my case), then select it on the Kickr Control page.
That said I’ve never done it because it doesn’t particularly interest me - I’ve always used Kickr Control on the Roam in ERG mode to create zone 1 or zone 2 sessions.
Haven’t done that for a while either because I bought a cheapish mountin back in the autumn when I decided to go through this winter with entirely outdoor riding. Back on the road bike now and breaking lots of PRs without especially trying so an outdoors only winter seems to have served me well!
Thanks. Great instructions. I found a race that I am doing again this year and will do the simulation as soon as I can. Had I not just done a 2 hour ride this morning I would be doing it now .
If your outdoor ride is saved in the History Beta (just called History in the Wahoo App), then you can turn that ride into a route from the Wahoo App and then do a sim of it indoors.
According to The Company support site: “Sync a route from a third party app/service, import a route from a file, or create a route from a completed activity in your activity history.”
Almost all the routes I have created and saved were created to use for simulation in RGT. So, will be interesting to try them out in May once I get past my current shenannigans.
